Once, my freshman year of college. It had a huge impact on my grades that first semester, and now I'm really careful about limiting my access to video games. One day though, I'd love to take a week or two off and play all the games I've been missing out on.

When I was in high school my brother and I would play Final Fantasy. I remember us binging 3 days straight on Silent Hill!

I've never played video games really. We never had a gaming system in my house so I have only played Mario racing like 3 times at a friend house when I was in middle school. I don't understand the appeal and I'm happy to not have then in my house now.

I've never been a gamer, just not osmethign I was interested in as a kid and it's carried over as an adult. DH's BIL and SIL would play all night. like 4 Chrsitmases ago were were snowed in (before kids) and we were playing Mario Brothers on the Wii, I think we played for like 4 hours and I finally said I'm going to bed, they played another couple hours!

My brother and I were both addicted to Starcraft and Diablo in high school! Zelda too. We'd fight over whose turn it was to use the computer... it was bad! DH and I enjoy playing video games occasionally now (mostly Mario on the Wii).

I'm not a video game person (I think I lack the coordination?), but I do get crazy addicted to computer games. I finally had to stop all computer games (and have also had to limit my phone games 
)

No. But I was obsessed with online boggle while I was writing my dissertation. I took sooo many breaks to play, but I wouldn't say it was an addiction.

Ive been off and on addicted to all the Sims games for like.... 15 years. lol.
I played one called Morrowind for like 200 hours in high school.

When I was in elementary school, we had a gaming system called ColecoVision and I was obsessed with a game called Q-Bert.
I eventually graduated to Tetris when we got a Nintendo, but I am not much of a gamer.

@luckypenny: Same story here. We never had them in my house growing up, and only ever played at friends' houses. I never thought it was that fun because I wasn't very good! Hubs grew up in a rural part of a developing country, so he obviously has never played them either. I'm glad that is one part of technology to completely ignore!

I go through phases, but I'm not sure what qualifies as addicted? My personality is such that when I like something, I LOVE it and want it all the time (particular foods, games, whatever), until one day I'm over it and don't care any more. So there have been many, many times when I've found a game and played for WAY too many hours (Neverwinter Nights (miss it still!), Warcraft, and Star Wars The Old Republic have been the worst, but there were so many more over the years), but I always quit on my own, so I never thought of it as an addiction. I definitely got in trouble at times as a teenager. When I was living with my dad, he tries to limit me to 2 hours a day on the N64, and that was just not happening.

Oh, and DH loves them too (though he prefers first person shooters and things that I don't like), so does anyone have any thoughts on not letting our kids overdo it? We currently have a PS3, WiiU, N64, Super Nintendo, and a game system that plays Sega Genesis and regular NES games, plus a computer that was built specifically to be gaming friendly (okay, maybe I do have a game problem), so no way we'll be keeping any LO's away from games for too long.

DH and I are "gamers". It was one of the many hobbies that drew us to each other. We probably still play a few hours a day (broken up through out the day)... I use to be really into nintendo games but I have moved on to iphone games. DH still does console / PC games because he likes those betters. Though we have trouble keeping up with all the new games coming out since we became parents.
Before LO we had all the consoles and a lot of games and basically play when we got home from work. Since LO we bought no new consoles (we are a gen behind), just this xmas my brother in law got us the xbox one which is the newest thing we have had in a while.
We aren't that hardcore though. We don't let ourselves get too drawn in for a long time if that makes sense. So it worked for us and it wasn't really a big deal to stop when we had LO and had to refocus.

@Torchwood: ditto! and LOL at all your systems. sounds like we'd be good friends. We have Atari, Dreamcast, xbox, xbox 360 x2, PS, PS2, PS3 x2, PS4, Wii, N64, and a few more... Obviously they're not all played. Our regular consoles are the xbox 360 and PS3/4.
As for your question, with our older boys, we definitely limit there time. They see us play for limited amounts of time (while we have them at least 
) and it's pretty strictly enforced in our house. I didn't grow up with any consoles, and DH had a few that were available at the time. The games and consoles back then didn't come out at the alarming rate they do now. We feel like it is really important to LOVE video games, but to make time for real life too. Because it's so so so easy these days to be completely consumed by it. Internet, multiple gaming consoles, phones, etc. So yes, we do have time limits.
