We live in the same city so it isn't a big deal but have you ever cut a family visit short when you had to travel?
We hung out with family last night and we left early because my inlaws were arguing so much. My MIL and FIL are divorced and they are friendly except when they reminisce about why they aren't together anymore. 
My LOs were getting anxious from all the yelling so we left before dessert was served!

On Christmas we left before dinner because DD was so overtired and overstimulated. She did really well though considering she was passed from family member to family member and it was loud.

Yes, over Christmas we were supposed to stay in NC until this past Sunday but D insisted we leave Saturday night, a few hrs after his Gram's burial. We ended up getting home at 4am and I was dead on my feet since I'd been up for almost 24hrs AND was sick but I was glad to wake up in my own bed the next day.
It wasn't for any major reason. We were both sick, had been gone for a week, and we were just ready to be home. My ILs weren't super happy about it, but mostly because we were both sick and had been up really early and they were worried about us driving overnight.
ETA: and we've totally left places because E was melting down. Or because I was sick (or more likely, had a migraine).

We left early and drove home at Christmas. We had planned to stay the night but (we were with family friends) LO was overstimulated and I was very stressed. It was chaotic and I asked for a room with a bathroom. Well I assumed that would be our room...? But someone came over that visits them a lot and was storming in and out of our room! Using the bathroom, she had a sinus infection, she used our bed to change her 3 year old's butt like it was a changing station. Left a mystery wet spot said nothing. That is was the only place to nurse lo. Plus they had a dog that could open the door and came and jumped on the bed while I was nursing! The tv was constantly on. Everyone was storming in our room to use the bathroom instead of walking upstairs. It was terrible! The baby was upset...
Plus there was no sound privacy. We could hear everyone and they could hear us. I had to get out of there! Plus I am estranged from my mom and this person is her friend. I was hoping I could still be friends with her... but she ended up telling me "I needed to love the whole person." We drove home and got in at 1 am and we were all soo happy we were literally dancing! Even the baby! it was rough. Plus it was freezing in their house.

We did on NYE. We went bowling with my family but it was SO loud, DS was way over stimulated! We cut visits short with my in-laws all the time because the don't know boundaries and will just sit and hang out for hours and hours on end.

Oh gosh that sounds very un-fun!
We haven't but we usually are *kind* of vague about when we are leaving. We usually say "probably sunday afternoon" that way if we need to sneak out a bit early it's ok! I think last Christmas we went home one day early because we were ready to be back in our house and tired of travelling all over!
