I've been feeling lately like my body just isn't doing its thing and started thinking about doing a cleanse. I've never done one but have heard good and bad things about them. Have you ever done one and would you recommend it?

I've done it twice. The first one was quite drastic, the Lemonade diet. It was rough, but I got through it and felt better afterwards. I lost about 10 pounds, but most of them came back quickly afterwords.
The second one I did was the boxed kind you can find at Whole Foods (don't remember the brand). Both DH and I did it and neither of us was terribly thrilled. I think he even felt worse afterwards.
If you do decide to do it, look around for options and choose something that has the best reviews. In my opinion, the healthiest type would be something like a raw food diet, since you're still eating well. Also check out Serious Eats, they did some reviews of the juice cleanses.

The only "cleanse" i've ever done is a whole food cleans. No process food, etc. Natural, whole foods (especially vegetables) are easy to digest and would not tax your immune system like most of the things in our standard diet.

I did the Advocare cleanse and it made me a lil crazy/depressed. It affected my relationship with the hubby. I don't think I'll do another cleanse like that again, but if I need a restart, I try to just be more disciplined in eating health foods for a week. That usually helps me shed a few pounds.

I did the Master Cleanse (lemonade) and I do not recommend it. If I was ever going to do one again, I'd do a juice or veggie cleanse.

@Mrs.Someone: @mrsjazz: My coworker did the lemonade diet. I tried some and I thought it was pretty tasty!

@autumnlove: I tried it after I saw a coworker do it actually At the time I was having digestive issues, so I thought it was worth a try. He said he felt better after it than he had in a long time. It definitely helped my digestive issues for a while too.

Like @Mrs.Someone and @MrsJazz I tried the Master Cleanse too. Do not do it! It was so gross and took a TON of time to prep.

@Mrs.Someone: Thanks for the resource. I'll check it out.
Sounds like most of you are saying doing a cleanse might not be the best plan.

@pelikila - I think the *right* cleanse could be good - juice or something. Otherwise, maybe try cutting out sugar or processed foods for a time and see if you feel better?

I haven't but I will as soon as I'm done breastfeeding! I will do a juicing cleanse.

@pelikila: I would never do "diet" cleanse like an actual advertised product. Try a juice cleanse! My sister has a lot of great information on her blog about doing a juice cleanse at saltnpepper.tv.

Oh! also... I don't remember - are you still BF or not? You shouldn't do a cleanse while BF or pg

@Mrs. Pen: Not pregnant and no longer breastfeeding so I"m clear there! I'm going to check out Serious Eats the way Mrs. Someone recommended and see what they say about different juice cleanses.

i just did the 5 day blueprint cleanse (www.blueprintcleanse.com) and though it was hard, i thought it was really good. i was never starving, but i did miss chewing~! you get 6 juices a day that you have to drink in sequential order. they have a delivery service drop it off fresh (sorry i think it's only for nyc and LA area right now). it's too expensive for my budget but i found an online coupon for half off (originally around $325 for 6 juices a day for 5 days but i paid $125). i definitely feel better now and though it doesn't promise any weight loss, i did lose weight and am trying to eat more raw veggies and fruits now to keep the weight off (and hopefully lose more~!)
