DH is out of town for a bowl game with his dad and brothers, and I'm home visiting my parents, so they watched LO and I went out with friends. Our city had close to 200,000 people downtown and it was BONKERS. We almost were crushed/trampled multiple times. I saw several people crying having panic attacks from the pushing crowds. I will neeeeever do that again! I felt really old but my mom was sending me pictures of LO and I wished I was home snuggling her!

Never have and never have I wanted to! I've never been a partier at all, so that type of stuff just doesn't appeal to me.

@Mrs. Pen: I am not a big partier (especially now in my old age) and it was actually not really a "party" atmosphere - at least not compared to a typical night downtown. Just crowded and crazy. The bars all had really high cover charges so if you wanted to drink somewhere, you had to pay that to go in. Everyone was just kind of milling around grumpily haha!

No. I've lived in major cities for all of my adult life, but huge crowds are not my thing.

I did NYC for NYE once but not Times Square. However, we were in that general area and it was still a nightmare. So many people and impossible to get a cab. It was the last time I went out for NYE LOL.

I was watching the NYE with Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest last night with like a million people there or whatever and I was like, who wants to do that? How is that fun? Apparently there are no bathrooms for the people waiting in Times Square and some of the people in the crowd said they were wearing diapers. Just to stand there and wave inflatables and scream? I don't get it! I'd way rather be somewhere warm where I can be comfortable and hear the sound of my own voice. And go pee when I want to.

I went to Times Square for NYE y2k (showing my age here). It was insane, people really thought the world was going to end, so I saw some stuff that night. I've been weirded out about crowds ever since.

I went twice to specific events near times square when I lived in NY. Never stood out to watch the ball drop. That doesn't sound fun at all.

Nope. I lived in NYC about 3 blocks from Times Square and no way in hell would I have ventured outside on NYE. I hate crowds. I'm getting hives just thinking about it

I did Times Square on NYE 1995. My mom drove me, my younger brother, and my uncle into the city on a whim. (We lived on Long Island). It was fun and then we drove home. When I think of the insane security and having to get there like 12 hours early and being barricaded in etc it sounds horrible, and I'm happy I got it out of my system when it was simpler!

No, heck no. I avoid Times Square on a normal day, never mind on NYE.

I have done the NYC big bar party where you pay a huge cover for watered down drinks all night and that kind of thing, when I was younger, and then yeah impossible to get a cab after even far from Times Square. I much preferred to go to a party at someone's house. Then I got old and had a baby and now we just stay home and watch a movie and don't even finish the whole thing.

Not nearly the same scale but I used to work in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras!
I've gotten increasingly uncomfortable with crowds, and I have zero interest in doing something like Times Square on NYE. I can't imagine that being fun at all. I much prefer house parties, and last night was super low key.

@daniellemybelle: yeah but even the whole huge crowds, masses of people, the noise - etc, I don't like it! I hung out with my friend on St. Patty's day last year and we were going to go to the downtown block party, when we got there and saw the hoards of people, we immediately looked at each other, said no way, and drove back to her place! Haha. I'd much rather spend the time with a fewer amount of friends/family.

I did Times Square when I was 16 and hated it! Huge crowd, no escape, and no bathrooms, plus absolute boredom. It was soon after 9/11 as well so there was crazy security and a tense atmosphere. I'll never do it again.

We were in Paris for NYE when I was a kid one year, and while my sister and I were stuck babysitting our cousins, the adults in our family went to celebrate on the Champs-Élysées. My mom was very upset when she came home: she said the crowd was too much, it was terribly loud, and people were popping champagne corks and letting them fly into the crowd, and it freaked her out.

We we to Times Squares for NYE a few years back. We bought one of those club/ attraction hopping passes. The crowds weren't that bad since our passes allowed us to move about easily. We ended up spending most of the night at Madame Toussads. By the time we left the crowds were gone and the street was littered in trash. So much fun!!

Once when I was 21. It was downtown LA and it was a huge crowd with tons of live music. I had a great time but now that I'm 32, that sort of thing no longer appeals to me.

@OldpuebloJenn: I took a trip to NYC that December but left on the 30th. I chatted with a store clerk during my trip and when I told him I was going to be leaving the city beforehand he said "Good. Only mad people go. Everyone is either drunk, high, or both!!!"

Not anything bigger than Disney World. The parks are always full capacity NYE, but it's a controlled crowd with lots of kids so it's not scary. It's pretty magical there, actually. And the fireworks are insane. I can't imagine Times Square. I recall really wanting to do it at some point when I was younger, but as I've gotten older, big crowds freak me out and I can't handle no bathrooms. Just no.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: lots of animal sacrifices- chickens, a goat! prayer circles, that we hope were just prayer circles and nothing more. They whole vibe was just weird.

I did Vegas for NYE a few years ago! It was fun, but insane. As soon as the fireworks were over, it was like a stampede and you had to just go with the crowd or get trampled.
We stayed at a timeshare right in between the Bellagio and Cosmopolitan and they shoot the fireworks off right in front of it, so we went down for midnight, then went back to our room to let the crowd die out a bit and then came back down to walk the strip for the rest of the night. I would maybe do it again, but probably stay on the edge of the crowd so it wasn't so crazy to get out of.

Um, no no no no no. One holiday downtown in NYC is enough for a lifetime, so I have had my fill! No bathrooms, large crowds, not my thing!

No, I can't imagine trying to stand for so many hours in the cold! I was near the front of stage for Lady Gaga and hated the crowds and pushing and I would imagine NYE in a place like Times Square might be even worse!

We did Vegas NYE pre-kids, it was pretty fun! We went in the crowds for a couple hours, but had a suite with a view of the strip in Mandalay Bay. We went back to the room about an hour before, and it took the whole time to walk back. Made it just in time for fireworks and avoided the crowds during the craziness!

@.twist.: Yes! Security is pretty tight, especially after 9/11. There are no public restrooms or portapotties in the area. If you leave the barricades your spot is gone and some people secure their spots early in the morning. Guys have it easier, they can pee into a bottle. But yes, some people wear adult diapers to ring in the new year. No thanks!

@mrsjazz: adult diapers? That is commitment. This is what I've always wondered about--where do you go to pee? The idea of being smooshed with a bunch of drunk strangers makes my skin crawl. No interest at all!

Yes, I did Times Square when I was like 19. It was HELL! As others have mentioned, you're literally SQUEEZED shoulder-to-shoulder in a huge drunk crowd in the freezing cold with no bathrooms around for like, miles. I held it from 9:30-midnight and almost died. There was NOTHING fun about it.

When I was much younger. Maybe in middle/high school? my hometown downtown is nowhere nearly as populated as NY, but it was still a lot of people! So it was super crowded and getting from point A to point B was a nightmare, and we couldn't see everything going on. Then leaving after the ball dropped was another nightmare.

@pastemoo: We did NYE Times Square that year too! We did the late dinner seating at Blue Fin, went outside for maybe 20 minutes, did the countdown and went home. Expensive but do much fun!!
