Have you ever gotten a gift from SO that you didn't like?

We don't really do gifts b/c I am so picky about stuff! I didn't ask for anything for my birthday, but DH got me jewelry anyway which is sooo sweet of him, but you guessed it; I don't really like it, lol. I'm still wearing it to show appreciation though... But this is why I don't want gifts!! Very few people can buy me clothing/jewelry/accessories. My mom even just gets it right like 80% of the time.

I think I really need to let him know that I have wish lists on Amazon and Etsy :silly:

But it is still really sweet of him, don't get me wrong! :happy: :heart:

Yes, when we were dating he bought me earrings. I said they were cute and he was butt-hurt! I mean, they are diamond studs in the shape of a flower. They are sweet/cute. If we have a girl they will go to her rightaway!

He means well but yeah.. My husband bought me some ski pants one year. They were very stylish, expensive designer (a designer I adore) ski pants. But this was after J was born, I can't do lowrise anymore. I also don't ski, never have nor do I have a reason to wear ski pants. And they were a size so small I will never wear again.

Haha yes. DH typically gets me one "big" gift and that's always well-received (an iPad, a DSLR, etc) but then he'll give me a few other small gifts that I know are meant to be practical but I'm like...these aren't things I want to receive as a present. Like...Tupperware, an electric toothbrush, an air compressor...if I need them I'd rather buy those things myself and get fun gifts!

@rachiecakes: haha it's like 5 levels of wrong that's the thing.. they mean so well! I don't have the heart to ever tell him I don't like them

@looch: good job! the thing is, he knows how picky I am too! but I think no one knows how picky I really am but me...

When we were dating he bought me a ring/necklace combo. It was not my style but i wore the ring every day until we got engaged. The necklace I didn't wear often (i'm not much of a necklace person.) But i did pin the necklace pennant under my wedding dress as my something blue!

He did at the beginning of us dating, but quickly learned to rely on wish lists or hints.

@IRunForFun: HA! One time DH got me a red old school phone that you plug into your cell phone's jack. It was the randomest gift ever. I had never expressed a desire for said gift and it seemed like such a random purchase.

@snowjewelz: LOL I think if I had expressed interest or asked for it then it would have been different but I actually don't like electric toothbrushes. So it was just kinda like...thanks? I don't use it now after two years, whoops.

@IRunForFun: Of course not. I use my phone the normal way like everyone else. I can't imagine picking up the phone and being like, "wait one second, let me plug in my retro headset." Now I'm wondering where it is, though.

Yes, I always seem to get sports equipment - which is great that he wants to share his interests with me. I'd never buy him painting lessons, ya know? The golf clubs I got last Christmas have still not been used. The worst part is that I asked for a sweater, I was very specific about which sweater, which was a fraction of the price of golf clubs... and I had to go buy the sweater anyways!

There have been a few times, but mainly, I just set up an Amazon wishlist. I love that I can add anything from any website as well.

DH usually relies on asking me what I'd like, but occasionally he picks something on his own for me and I love that! My first Mother's Day we had 8 day old twins and he snuck out to get me earrings with their birth stone. They aren't what I would have chosen, but they are so precious to me. I love that he chose them himself!

He got me a laundry hamper one year for my birthday. Womp womp... He is not the best with thinking up good gifts. Now I just tell him exactly what I want. He is all about practical presents.

Yes and I felt so bad that I didn't like it. He works in a building with a lot of artists and designers, so he picked out a one of a kind set of earrings and matching necklace. He meant well but they were so not my style. I have only worn them a couple of times when I know its just going to be the two of us

Honestly the gifts I have liked the least, he put the least amount of thought into. So I doubt he's noticed if they aren't my favorites. But the things he's really thought about have been great (especially jewelry wise). And he knows when he doesn't have a clue what to get, a spa GC will get used.

Gifts from MIL on the other hand...

I'm usually not too crazy about his gifts. He doesn't really get my taste and is kind of lazy about shopping anyway.
