I want to have one this weekend but rain is forecast, so maybe next weekend. We have some furniture and all kinds of random home goods I'd like to get rid of. I've never had a stoop sale before, but they get a lot of foot traffic here in Brooklyn and tend to do pretty well. I figure it'll be fun for Charlie and Olive too (though I don't think he'd be on board with selling any of his toys).

My mom is a rabid yard saler, gets it from her parents. I've helped at rummage sales but never hosted a yard sale.

Growing up we had garage sales every few years (usually a combo one with my aunt). I loved them b/c my mom let me keep the money from anything I sold 
I think they usually did pretty well - a couple hundred in a weekend.

yup- we have made a few hundred off of anything from old clothes, to furnature- whatever we have to get rid of!

I never have! I don't think we have enough stuff just yet to get rid of though! I would love to though in the future!

Ohhh yeah. I think the Midwest is like, the garage-sale-in' capital of the world. We've had quite a few. Depending on the state of your crap, you can usually make upwards of a few hundred bucks! I think it's more so a...social thing than a making money thing...get the lawn chairs out, get the whole family over, people watch... Hahahah, we're a classy brood.

When I was a teenager there was this camp I really wanted to go to but it was like $500... I was able to get a bit of a scholarship but still needed to raise a little more. My parents "donated" items, I cleaned out my closet, and some friends donated stuff as well and I was able to raise enough money for the rest of the tuition!
I love garage sales and we make a point to go to several throughout the summer...
@ms.janedoe: hahahaha I know right!!! When I brought DH home to meet my parents (he's from NY) I told him we were going garage-saleing... and he thought I meant "garage-sailing" was like parasailing or something he was like oh cool hahahaha. until we pulled up to a house lol. He was like this is lame.

Yes! We had really small things though as it was part of our community's yard sale (we lived in a condo association). So it was just a table of small things. We made about $75 though!

No - I always end up donating our stuff because I hate clutter. I would love to have one though. Maybe during my spring cleaning purge!

Yes, I've done one. Lot's of people have garage/yard sales where I live. I think I made close to $400!

Yes, and you can make big bucks, especially if you're selling baby stuff.
My advice: have lots of change, be prepared for people to haggle, and know that people will show up earlier than whatever starting time you post.
