My husband just told me that as a rule of thumb most guys follow the Three Date Rule. Essentially, most guys will dump a girl if she hasn't slept with him by the third date.
I've never heard of this before! He swears it is common knowledge and told me to go on my "killer bee website" so that you all can prove him right.
Have I been living in a box? Is this common knowledge?

Oh I thought it was going to be that women held out until the third date. I'm not surprised by it but didn't know it was common knowledge.
Luckily dh did it follow that rule, which is all I'll say on the matter.

I always thought the "Three Date Rule" was that a woman shouldn't sleep with a guy until at LEAST the third date because otherwise he'd think you were too easy! Sooo...that's basically the opposite!

heard of it both ways. the guy dumping after 3 and the girl waiting until 3. Hubs told me about that long after I made him wait months after months after months lol.

@Foodnerd81: FWIW, my husband didn't either. I've never heard of it before tonight but he was telling me how lucky I am that he didn't follow it

Good thing DH didn't follow that rule! I made him wait until like day 5 or 6. But that's the longest I've held out with a guy.... Guess it was a good thing I did!

Yep, definitely a rule both DH and I are familiar with. Only, the way we know it is more that it's expected by the third date, but not that the guy will necessarily dump her if she doesn't.

I heard of it but I didn't follow it! DH and I went out 3 times in the first week and I didn't give it up for a month. Heck it was our 3rd date before we made made out

I know the rule as on the third date is when you should be getting it on--not by the third date. Sort of the make it or break it rule. I thought it was common knowledge, at least here in NYC. There was even a local cable show on a few years ago specifically about the 3rd date that followed couples on this date to see what happened.

I hadn't heard of that! Dh slept in my bed after the third date but we didn't have sex then, it was more like we didn't want to say good bye even after he drove me home so we cuddled all night, haha.
The only "rule" he followed was that he called me for a second date exactly 2 days after our first date. But after that everything moved pretty fast, our third date was just one week after our first

@mrsjazz: There's a whole Seinfeld episode about how you're "supposed" to have sex on he third date.
But ew, who wants to date a guy anyway who will dump you for something like that? Good riddance.

Yeah it's totally a rule, but not always followed obviously. It's mostly a "man" rule and they like to gloat about it if they make it.

I've never heard about this & I asked DH if it was a "thing". He made a face and said no.
Good thing or else we wouldn't be married right now. I definitely did not put out on our third date.

I've heard of it in the respect that a girl *should* wait until at least the third date to put out... but not that a guy would dump her.
We definitely did not follow that rule, nor have I ever. DH was the first and only guy I've ever been with - didn't sleep with any other boyfriends!
I don't know anyone that did either. In my circle of friends, waiting is more common.
