If so, do you have a good recipe to share? I need to make some for a wedding in a few weeks. I'm thinking red velvet, but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks!

i tried- it did not work out. for next time i try it, a few tips i learned:
-only put a little frosting in with the cake, too much messes it up
- you can always put the cake in the freezer to harden it up
-don't swirl the pop in the melted chocolate, just dip it
good luck!

Ah, my sister makes them all the time but she just went on vacation! I'll ask her when she gets back.

@swedishfish: Thank you! I'd appreciate it. I'm not making them for a few weeks, so I have time
@lioneyes: I'm nervous-thanks for the tips!

@LovelyPlum: I make them all the time actually. I make them look like lego heads, so they get requested a lot from J1. I melt the frosting for about 10 sec in the microwave, and mix it into the cake when it's cooling. (sheet cake broken up by hand and probably a cup of frosting) Then I roll them, stick the sticks in and put them in the freezer for a little bit so when you dip them in the chocolate it hardens faster and doesn't rip the cake off of the stick

I've done them a few times and I really recommend staying with a boxed cake mix and canned frosting because the consistency is usually the same. Unless you've done the a few times, it can be tricky using homemade cake or frosting. I started with Bakerella's recipe and they turned out great.

Once with Bakerella's and they tasted great, but I made them too big, so they were heavy and had to be displayed upside down {like candied apples}.

I've made them with a box mix and they turned out really well. If you don't want to use homemade frosting, use the Wilton candy melts. When I used those for the outside, they had a great look and taste.

I've made them a couple of times before. I think Bakerella's recipe with a full cup of frosting is too sweet and the dough always turns out too sticky for me. My tip to make a less sweet version is to use a super moist cake mix and use just a couple of spoonfuls of a light (whipped) frosting from the can.

I have made them, it was fun but I definitely recommend a trial run, they have a bit of learning curve. Another option is doing Oreo cake balls, I think it is a pound of Oreo's minus eight cookies and a block of cream cheese thrown in the food processor together. They were easier for me to get to the right consistency and they taste amazing.
Oh, and I found a small amount of coconut oil in my dipping chocolate made it much easier to keep at a good consistency!
Good luck!

OK, trying a version of this today...I think I may end up doing something closer to a truffle than a cake pop, but I'm still excited to do it. I'll post pics when I'm done!
