There was an interesting discussion on another thread about tips expectations getting out of control these days! It got me thinking that my thoughts on tipping have changed ever since I had to rely on tips: not only for money, but for the morale boost. It's hard to convey just how much each and every tip meant to me at the time! So now I try and pay it forward.
That said, I do agree that everyone seems to expect a tip these days - whether or not they're actually working hard. It's a tough balance to be fair but when I'm not sure, I try to err on the side of tipping. I think it's terrible how some professions (like serving food) are allowed to pay so little, and force people to depend almost entirely on tips.
