I would definitely sabotage something in order to buy another one, but I think in this case I would just negotiate. It's something you likely use every day, you should love it!

i only do this to mr. bird's clothing.... oops, that dime sized hole in your boxers has turned into crotchless undies, better get rid of them! he thinks he should hold on to damaged clothing longer than i'm comfortable with, so i just accelerate their demise

While we were engaged, I accidentally broke a few of DH's dishes. They were black Corningware that shatters into a thousand pieces when they hit the floor. He said that I did it to get new plateware. We got all of the plateware we registered for and the black Corningware was saved briefly for his brother when he moved out of his parents' house. We've been married almost 5 years and his brother hasn't moved out of the house.

I say subtle destruction is okay.

My husband has done this! When we moved in together I had a purple desk chair from college that he hated. When we painted he "accidentally" spilled paint on it and we had to throw it out and buy a new one.

Yep...it involved 'accidentally' dropping and breaking the screen of my crappy phone I had a physical protection plan on right after the new iPhone I'd been lusting after came out.

I definitely wouldn't actually do it...but I'd like our coffee table to suffer an accident so I can replace it.

When DH and I first moved in together we got his parent's old microwave, which I hated. Since it was so old I suggested to my DH that maybe it's leaking microwaves (which was probably complete bullcrap) and DH got a little freaked out by it from then on. Soon, we bought a new microwave lol!!

I haven't ever done this intentionally but one summer I was borrowing my grandmother's car and they were going to sell it at the end of the summer since she couldn't drive anymore. I got into a car accident (it want my fault!) and the car was totaled. They got more from the insurance company then they could have sold it for so they were thrilled!

@Mrs. Champagne: i had a friend in high school who said her parents were trying to get their car stolen, they left the doors unlocked everywhere they went, but no one ever took it!
