We went with Holland to the Caribbean. The only thing I noticed was that the overall demographic was maybe a little on the older side (but hey -I think that's with most cruise lines?). The food was really good especially when we ate in their special restaurants - I think some people told us that their food is pretty good compared to some other lines. The only other cruise I've been on was with Norwegian to Alaska when I was a lot younger.

We just came back from an extended family trip on holland america to alaska. It was my first time on a cruise so I have nothing to compare it to. I like that it wasn't a super large ship. The service was impeccable. The food was really good! We stayed in a larger room (don't remember what they're called) because we thought it'd because easier with 2 kids. That came with additional perks like being able to eat in the formal dining room for breakfast instead of the main buffet area. We only got to go to tea time once because of the kids' nap schedules, but we enjoyed it. It seemed like a really popular activity on the ship. I had a really good time as a first time cruiser.

We took a Holland America cruise to Alaska two summers ago. We really enjoyed it. We've sailed on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean before. Holland was definitely a smaller ship and skewed older, but we found the food and the service to be better. There's not much going on in the way of nightlife, but there are plenty of fun daytime activities. We though Norwegian was more "fun" but the food wasn't as good. Royal Caribbean had good food but we weren't impressed by the service - it seemed like all they wanted to do was sell you things.
