@MrsBrewer: Can you open an Etsy shop for your creative side?

I love my job, but I don’t have much opportunity for a lot of creativity, except via persuasive writing. I love making things though, so I have shops on Etsy, which is fun anyway for a little extra spending $$.

I have occasional fantasies about going into some sort of creative field... But for the most part I'm ok where I'm at.

@MrsBrewer: Anything and everything! Setting up escort card tables, steaming linens, putting out table decor, bustling dresses, directing guests, etc. My friend owned the company so she dealt with all of the logistics of things and I was there mainly as a set of hands to actually get things done. It was very low stress on my end, but I tried to be supportive to her where she needed it because she was working her ass off to make everything come together perfectly for her clients

@Foodnerd81: Exactly! I would have kept doing it but it was a lot of manual labor and I got too big and pregnant LOL

I've thought about it, but because it doesn't seem practical/lucrative, and also because I like my current job, I don't dwell on it too much :).

@Honeybee: My undergrad English degree has an emphasis on Fiction writing, so that's an option. But really, I'd love to do design of some sort. Actually, I'd love a job consulting on naming babies. I love doing that!

I used to always think about finishing up my wine courses and becoming a sommelier but the hours would be bad if you have a family, and i wouldn't really be able to work while pregnant!

@Mrs. Jacks: Naming babies would be an awesome job! I didn't realize your undergrad was in English. No wonder we're friends!

Sometimes. I'm in accounting too. I really need to get my CPA but I've been slacking on studying. I think about going back to school but I have no idea what I would do. Plus I'm the breadwinner so that makes it a little more difficult.

Definitely. Sometimes I think I'll somehow end up back where I was before but having LO amplified my dissatisfaction with job a lot so I'm in the transition phase right now. Just doing teaching and writing till I figure out what it is that will make money while being a satisfying career.

All the time. I just have NO clue what I want to do with my life. My job now isn't something that I love and I definitely don't look forward to work every day.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm going to remember both of those things! You should become a Rosie Pope and help design nurseries and name babies! I would hire you!

I think about it often, but I don't really want to ever go back to school.

I did change careers and don't regret it at all! After grad school, I did social work for several years, which gave me the opportunity to move overseas and work abroad. I then got into a teaching program with a not for profit organization and taught middle school for a couple of years whilst getting my teaching certification. I'm currently a SAHM now but plan on pursuing another masters in special ed and returning to the work force somewhere down the line.

I hated my last job, but not because of what I was doing. It had just become a terrible environment to work. So I started going to school part-time in the evenings, for interior design. I did that for about a year and then I found my current job. I started this job during a break in semesters, and chose to take a semester off so I could focus on getting up to speed at my new job. Then I found that I didn't miss school, and did some soul searching and discovered I didn't really want to be an interior designer as a career -- I just needed a reprieve from the crushing depression I felt at my previous job. And I'm glad I did the school thing, because I feel like it (and DH) is the only thing that got me through that terrible last year. Of course... I don't love the sudden student loan debt I've incurred. But it is what it is

That being said... I'm not actively seeking another job right now. I love my job, my company, and my employers. But I do think someday it would be nice to work freelance from home. I only think that way because we're starting our family and it would be nice to have the flexibility. I'm considering graphic or web design. I don't have an artist background, but I'm drawn to the visual discipline. So I'm slowly trying to learn Photoshop and Illustrator, then html and Wordpress, Dreamweaver, etc. I'll need to learn design principles and stuff like that too. I feel like I got a good foundation going back to school for a year.
