Haha nice! Maybe dinner party wasn't the right word choice for me? It's a family dinner, so it's nothing super fancy.

We host our friends for a holiday dinner party every year. I don't know what makes them different...maybe more structured and a little more formal? We try to do a theme of sorts to make it fun. One year we did a "Last Supper" potluck where you were to bring the dish that you would choose to have if it were your last meal ever. Granted a potluck isn't a dinner party.

For me a dinner party means we host & provide everything from start to desserts and it would be for a special occasion. Our family get togethers are more casual and everyone brings a dish of their choice.

We host "themed dinners" a few times a year, they are so much fun! "Dinner parties" seem more formal/thought out to me. Sometimes when we have friends over, we don't really have any plan for dinner, but with a dinner party we have everything planned out in advance - - food, table settings, etc.

No. I would be too overwhelmed. I'll stick with throwing birthday parties.

As PP have said.. I would say it has a bit more formality to it.
