Only in situations with bad drivers around that nearly caused wrecks, nothing like that, thankfully. My cousin had someone follow her when she was out running once, and it freaked her out quite a bit. For unrelated reasons, I tend not to follow any real schedule, so at least I have that going for me. And I carry pepper spray, but not like I've ever used it.

Yes. When terrorists were shooting and throwing handmade grenades and WMDs at police behind my house. I thought I was going to die.

ETA: first time that's ever happened on US soil, so obviously not like that's a normal "in danger" experience.

Just once that I recall... in Cambodia trying to get from the Thai/Cambodian border to Siem Reap. Being extorted at the border for a visa, followed by a "taxi" ride 4 hours consisting of being chased down the street by motorcycles that opened the door and tried to pull us out to take their taxi... then stopping on the side of the road a hour into the ride and being approached by a group of people on a motorcycles again (turned out to be curious people at a pit stop bathroom break). Then pulling into an empty parking lot, being told to get out of the car, and being approached by 4 guys again (who happen to live near by and was coming to try to get us to eat at their "restaurant"/house). Turned out all innocent I guess, but I was sure scared as hell in the moment.

I was teaching in inner city Chicago and we had a lockdown (not planned, and I could just tell that it wasn't a drill). I had no idea what was going on, but I wasn't in my classroom and there was no intercom, so I knew my kids weren't locking down. I army-crawled down the hall, down the stairs, and across my hall into my classroom, where I was able to lock down with my kids.

Turns out it was a parent with a knife (not a gun), so I probably wasn't in real danger, but still...the bullet holes in my classroom window did not inspire confidence.

Oh, also when our car got stuck on safari in Africa at night and there were elephants on all side. I was pretty terrified then, too.

@BandDmommy: Ha ha. I don't know about that. I'm almost positive I would have shot him if he had actually manged to kick the door in because I was terrified and he looked super drugged up( which the neighbor said he was). I'm so glad I didn't have to!

Yes, in high school a guy followed me around a store and then out to my car. He then followed me as I went home. At first I thought it was a coincidence (at first I thought I was being paranoid, if I knew he was actually following me, I wouldn't have left the store) and made a few random turns but he made every one...this was before cell phones and it was late at night so I eventually went home and immediately told my dad who was still up. Thankfully, the guy drove away. It kinda freaked me out.

Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!! Too many times to even delve into.

Sketchy people, sketchy places, traveling Mexico and Europe with just one other female, sketchy road trips, sketchy bars, drug dealers, I got followed a lot and flashed a lot in Europe, I've been assaulted and followed, treated to indecent exposure... and so much more.

I lived alone in a cabin on a river and had some times when I felt pretty afraid of some sketchy people, have lived places with scarey neighbors, have camped and traveled alone....

It is an awful feeling!

I almost drowned in very cold water in my early 20's. Hijacked in Africa in my mid 20's. Serial rapist broke into my house in later in my 20's. Takes a lot to get me going... Though I am completely and irrational freaked out by flying.

I’ve been lucky to not have been in a lot of truly dangerous situations. There have been plenty of times I’ve felt uncomfortable and I always listen to my spidey sense! You've got to listen to that little voice inside.

I have felt uncomfortable before with people being shifty around me/LO/my car, but wouldn’t say I felt “in danger” then....just uncomfortable. I dunno. I’ve also had several men offer to help me with groceries or bags when I was alone with LO and obviously had my arms full…so maybe that guy was actually thinking about being a gentlemen instead of a creeper. never know.

When I was driving with my best friend in high school (I was in the passenger seat, she was driving), a biker gang surrounded us in an intersection, totally stopping traffic, and a biker gal got off her bike and went to my friends' window and told us to get out so she could beat us into the ground. Apparently she didn't like something my friend did driving (though we don't know what it was). We never got out of the car and locked the doors and she ended up getting called away by one of the other bikers and he told her to leave us alone and they left. We were 16 and bawling our eyes out. Haha!

I have a dangerous job, lone working in some fairly scary areas, inhabited by some fairly scary people so I spend a significant amount of my time in actual danger.... but I rarely feel it. My scariest experience though was in a totally different job, when I was 19. I worked in a mobile phone shop and one day these two guys came into the shop, totally off their faces on something. They started yelling, saying they were robbing the place and to empty the till. My boss (the shop owner) was a bit of a character and he started yelling back at them saying he was going to phone the Police. Suddenly, one of them pulled a gun. I have no idea if it was real or not.... remember I'm in the UK and guns are just not a thing here - I've never seen one before or since. He was pointing it at my boss. My boss calmly said to me "Please phone the Police". At that, the guy turned and pointed the gun at me. I didn't know what to do! I picked up the receiver, dialed 999 and asked for the Police, all while he was stood there pointing the gun at me! Fortunately, calling his bluff worked and they ran out of the shop (they were picked up on the street a little while later - but there was no gun in their possession) but it was so, so scary.

I was followed home once from a laundromat. thankfully my roommate was home and i screamed ahead to her to open the door for me and to call the police, which scared the man off. I was so grateful she was in the right place at that time, though i would've at least called out to her even if i knew she wasn't - it might've worked.

I once yelled at a guy for cutting me off in traffic...well he slammed on his breaks and got behind me to "follow" me I did NOT go down my street and kept driving....I actually called 911 as I was driving......he eventually left

I had a guy try to carjack me late at night, while driving through a sketchy neighborhood. I was stopped at a red light and he got out of a car that pulled up to it. He got about a foot from my car and went to pull a gun out of his pants. I said fuck this and floored it through the light.

I didn't even have a nice car, just a shitty 96 Saturn SL1 with a busted fender.

I worked in a rough area of Atlanta at a shelter - one night while leaving with my supervisor we were approached and threatened, but my supervisor's son (a police officer!) happened to pull up right then to collect his mom, so the guy ran off. I carried mace and we did the buddy system, so it was only one incident.

I also had a few incidents over the years at work - when you work in a prosecutor's office, you get lots of threats. One guy my investigator had to pull a gun on when we were out looking for a witness, and another that they canceled court and escorted to our cars because someone tried to come through security that didn't like us much are the incidents that come to mind.

@yoursilverlining: oh no, this car waited for me on a side street, then did a y turn in front of me, right next to me so that we were going in the same direction and pulled over. Then they waited for me to walk by and then pulled up ahead of me to the next house. They did it again and again, very obviously not normal and I turned back around and headed back to an open park. They continued this, they did another y turn and now were on my side of the street pulling just ahead of me, stopping, waiting for me to walk ten feet and pulling ahead of me ten feet. When I got to the park I saw them driving around the park to meet me at the other side. I was truly terrified, when I didn't see them at the other exit of the park (when I got there) I ran like hell home and called the cops. It was very obvious and strange. It takes a lot to rile me. Don't worry, I doubt you scared anyone!
