DH and I are planning on doing a 5 - 7 day friendscation in March (DS will be 16 months) in Punta Cana.
My parents (mainly my mom) will watch him while we're gone. He STTN 12+ and is wonderful with her, so I'm not worried at all!

Only when LO was very young! 2.5 months and it was only for 3 days.....I can't wait to go on an adult vacation!

Not yet. But sometimes this Spring/Summer we are going to Vegas without M.

That sounds like fun!
DH and I took our delayed honeymoon/babymoon last summer when LO was 26 months old. We were away for a week, and he was very well behaved with my sister.

Not yet, but LO is only 5 months old. She's EBF and I plan to BF until a year, but hopefully we'll be able to get away soon after she weans!

CANNOT WAIT. We are trying to do something in the late spring, but need to coax one of the grandmothers into babysitting.

Ah we would but we don't really have a good, reliable sitter for 5 whole days!

We're going to Cuba in February with LO (she'll be 6 months).

We just went on a short one and we're going on another vacation-ish trip without her in April.

@redsmarties: @Pepper: I think the OP is going on vacation WITHOUT her LO I misread it the first time too!

@JoJoGirl: @mrsjyw: Lol whoops! That's what I get for posting while eating. I've never gone on a vacation without LO but he's still pretty little. Hope you have fun! Punta Cana sounds amazing

@mrsjyw: so jealous! We left LO for 3 days when she was 20 months. We are leaving her again but for 5 full days at the end of the month - she'll be 26 months. I'm kind of a wreck thinking about it bc our flight is super early and I won't get to say goodbye in the morning

Oh man, I can't read.
Nope- haven't gone away without her yet!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope, but DS is only 5.5 months right now. I've taken him to all sorts of places with us though!
I know DS is young right now so maybe my mindset will change as he gets older, but I totally freak at the thought of going somewhere without him.

@mrsjyw: Yes! DH and I went to Germany for a week for Oktoberfest without LO.
pomegranate / 3890 posts
Nope we will probably bring the kids with us whenever we go on vacation
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Nope. We can't afford a vacation now and ILs aren't capable of handling LO for that long. If we ever do we'll drop LO off at my moms in NYC.

We just booked a vacation last night, actually. 5 days in Puerto Vallarta without our LO next month. He'll be 8 months old. I'm totally not ready to leave him but the alone time with hubs will be good. However, I must admit, I already get misty eyed at the thought.

@mrsjyw: I wanna go!
DH and I went to the Bahamas last march for 7 days, J was 9mo old and we had a blast. We missed him terribly and were SOOOOOOO excited to get home to him but it was a very welcome break for us.

Haven't yet, but we're planning to go on a big trip this summer when LO will be a year old. We're going to a developing country and the water isn't safe and even some of the food can be sketchy, so we don't want to risk taking LO--otherwise we'd take her.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Alivoo01: Me too! I'm still at the point where I don't even think I'd enjoy a vacation because I would be too worried about her. I am sure that'll change the longer this sleep deprivation goes on, though.

I've been out of town twice without lo, and one more coming up. Once was for a week with dh, the next was three days for a wedding with family (dh came to that too) and the next will be another family get together in Vegas. The first time was easy peasy. Dd was sttn and had no object permanence (separation anxiety) yet. The next we paid dearly for...a month of long motn wakeups! I anticipate we will pay dearly again after this one which is only 2 days. MIL has been with dd each time. The older dd gets the harder it is for me to leave because she has gotten much more clingy as a toddler... but we are still going. As of this summer/fall we really won't have the option. I will be working full time and we hope to have another lo after that.

@lawbee11: Agreed on worry. Plus, I'm look forward to experiencing things WITH him. Again, could be new mommy mentality. Watch it be complete 180 in a few months. lol

Nope. My parents never vacationed without me and I don't think we'll vacation without our kids! DH remembers when his parents told him they were going to Hawaii....he got excited and thought they were going as a fam, only to be heartbroken to learn they were going without him! Lol, poor DH.
I'm jealous of those who do, but honestly, I wouldn't have the heart to ask family to watch DS for more than an overnight! At least not until he STTN consistently.

@petunia354: Awww poor Mr. D! You'll need to plan a family Hawaii vacation for him and O one day,

My DH won an all inclusive cancun trip yesterday but he gave it to another coworker because I don't think I could have fun while missing my baby (she's too young right now). So the coworker gave him $500 for the trip and he said he'll surprise me with something nice for Valentine's Day!

We are flying to a wedding in a couple months without DS. I don't think we'll bring him with us on vacation until he's much older since otherwise it won't be much fun for him. We're already thinking about where to go next - as a couple!

3 day weekend away at 12 months and that's it. We've talked about Vegas before baby #2, but i don't think it's going to happen! I alreya dknow we are doing a Mexico trip for my 30th! (and I'll probably have baby #2 by then!)

So interesting to read all these responses! When I was a kid my parents committed to one vacation/year alone, and one vacation/year with us (the latter was usually a drive to upstate NY to stay in the cabin for a week, nothing expensive or fancy). They depended on that week alone to rekindle their marriage and reconnect and we loved having a week with our grandparents! Totally planning to repeat that tradition. They will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary this year so I guess it worked
