I don't know if I would consider him a mentor but I had a boss when I worked at a station in NY who seemed like he was in tune with my emotions. He helped me get back on the right track when I was having some personal problems and not dealing well with them. It was showing in my professional life and he helped me turn things around. I sent him a thank you card a few years ago (I worked for him from 2001-2003) just to thank him for all he did for me.

I have a mentor, who is also a very good friend. He was my team lead a few years back and we really hit it off, having similar interests outside of work. He's also a very smart guy and really knows his stuff, so I would often come to him for questions about work-related stuff. We don't work together anymore, but I still go to him for both professional and personal advice and consider him both a friend and mentor.

At the college I went to, they have a co-op program so you spend 6 months out of your junior year interning (hopefully paid) then go back to class. My major only had one co-op others like my hubs had 3. I worked for a great company and my boss went through the same path - Started as a co-op, hired at graduation, worked her way up to manager. She taught me soooo much and i was so sad when she moved back to her home state of NH. We still keep in touch.

I have so many mentors. I love being mentored... I have an official mentor who is an older faculty member at my college. I was assigned to her through an official program. I also have several unofficial mentors who I go to for different types of career advice.
