My girls are almost 5 and almost 3; thinking about taking them as their first in-theater movie experience! My 3 year old is actually pretty brave and I think she will be fine. My 5 year old on the other hand refuses to watch most movies; but I figure doesn't hurt to try! Honestly I want to see it to find out the back story to Elsa's powers!

DD will be five next month. We plan on taking her as her birthday present, it will be her first movie in the theater! She is so excited! (DH and I are pretty excited too, not going to lie

@graceandjoy: My 5 year old also refuses to watch movies! He says they're too scary. It's because of that that we wont try taking them - at least in theaters. I really want him to get over this fear though because I would totally have a Disney+ subscription if it meant some fun Disney movie nights!

She only watched Rapunzel b/c her sister wanted to watch it; there's barely any scary parts! We got Disney+, but she refuses to watch the classics like Belle, Ariel, etc. But somehow she is fine with Frozen... It's SO strange. Sing was pretty much our safe movie forever lol.

I plan on going because I want to see it, my son says he wants to go too, so I'll probably bring him along. He's 3 1/2 and had already seen Abominable, Lion King, and Secret Life of Pets 2 in theaters and has done very well.

@graceandjoy: That's how we were too! He was all aboard the Frozen and Moana trains a year or two ago, but then suddenly was terrified. At first we could get away with skipping the "scary" parts but now he hands down refuses to try any new movie. We keep Bambi in the dvd player in the car for long trips because that's about all he's willing to watch.

I'm taking E on his bday Tuesday... We took DD(2-1/2) to Toy Story 4 this summer and she couldn't sit that long, so she's skipping this one. E loves movies.

I saw an advanced screening last night and there are some heavy and scary parts. Both my 8 and 5 year old boys were fine, but the 5 year old jumped at a few spots. I also had some adult friends cry at one point (emotional part, not scary).
My kids liked it, but just be aware. -
I’m going to take my 6.5 DD and 3.5 DS sometime over thanksgiving break. My DD is excited for it and my DS always likes to come along for the ride

We'll probably just wait until its out of the theaters. DD is 3 1/2...I'm not sure she'd sit through the whole thing just yet! She loves Frozen though, I just wish she were a bit older.

She was terrified the first time she saw Frozen at 2 but has seen it since. I’m going to wait it out on the sequel. My middle is also scared of a lot of things - we saw Trolls at the summer $1 movie and he was so upset by it! And now we have a one year old so we’re never doing anything fun again

We’re seeing it tomorrow! We’re going with a group: 2 are 2.5, DD2 is 3.5, another is 4 and DD1 is 6. My girls like “scary” movies. They’ve watched Aquaman 4 times this week (morning sickness has resulted in too much screen time), and are really into real superhero movies. They were so pumped when they saw previews and it looked spooky—it was the first thing they commented on!
That being said I know one of the 2.5 year olds won’t be able to handle it.

I’m planning to take DD on her 6th birthday next week. She’s been asking since she saw the teaser in May/June if the movie is out yet so she’s more than ready to go. She used to get really freaked out by “scary” parts of movies but now seems to be fine... I thought for sure Te Ka in Moana would be too much for her but it didn’t bother her at all. But Toy Story 4 was her first movie in a theater this past summer because I was never confident she’d make it all the way through until then.

DD can't make it through Frozen I at home and she fell asleep during Toy Story 4 in the theatre... We will wait until it comes out on DVD.

Any thoughts about bringing a six year old to see it in 3D? I don’t really care about the 3D aspect, but this will be her first movie in a theater, so I thought it might add to the experience. She’s good about being able to keep sunglasses on. Worth it or skip it?

@Hypatia: My mom and I took my 5 year old yesterday. We went to the 2d movie because I’m usually not a huge fan of 3D and DS doesn’t like to wear the glasses, BUT you could totally tell they designed parts of the movie for the 3D experience. It’s a visually beautiful movie and I think the 3D would have added some really cool elements. My mom and I both commented that we’d go see it again in IMAX 3D if we get the chance.

My 7yo is hugely sensitive to what she watches and can’t sit through the original Frozen without freaking out so I’m not sure it would be worth taking her!

I want to see it! I asked DS1, who is 6.5, if he wanted to see it and he had no interest. After watching the first what feels like hundreds of times, this made me kind of sad.

@pachamama: At 5 and 3 my girls can hold their attention (more or less) watching a movie at home. I feel like my 3 year old was ready sooner than my 5 year old. They've never been to the movies yet, so I have no idea how they'd do! I don't really like watching movies out, so I don't even think this will be a regular occurrence (the only other movie they'd want to see is Trolls next year).
@MrsSRS: Just headphones to block sound? Or headphones to actually plug in somewhere? I'm totally expecting one of both of them to end up on my lap lol
@Hypatia: I am trying to avoid IMAX/3D as their 1st movie experience; thinking it might be too much. But you never know!

We went this weekend with a gaggle of 6 year olds and there were a few scary parts but my extra-sensitive 6 year old was OK. It's a little more complex story-wise than the first, I thought, so I'm not sure my kid fully got the storyline, and it does feel a little more grow-up than the first so I'm not sure it's really worth the price of admission for the under 6-7 crowd unless they're huge fans of the first one.

Lots of songs. There is some sword fighting from soldiers and some talk of the parents dying. We didn’t find it scary at all. My 6yo says the first frozen is scary and didn’t say anything about the second

@gotkimchi: Thanks. I really love that the first frozen really downplays the death of the parents. My 3.5 year old is just starting to use the word "die". I think she picked it up from school. Ugh. Anyhow.. I'm still leaning towards taking her to see it.

@agold: I actually just watched the first Frozen the night before we went because somehow I had never seen it. I would say there are the same amount of songs. I think there were actually more songs in the second one that are done with lots of visual "special features" like let it go was in the first one. I also agree with pp that the first had more scary parts. There are big ogre types in the second one but I don't think their parts are near as intense as the scary parts in the first. I think if your LO is ok with the first one they're going to be ok with this one.

@JennyPenny: This is funny to me only because I vividly remember watching Bambi as a small child and FREAKING OUT when the mom died. So much that my own mother had to throw the VHS in the trash in front of me. I don't think I've seen it since.
We'll see Frozen 2 next weekend. Of course I was all on-top-of-it and planning ahead bought tickets a couple weeks ago for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. But this past Saturday I got a notification on my phone that my movie will be starting in 10 minutes - Enjoy! Which means I picked the wrong date and bought tickets that we couldn't use. So now I have to buy them again and hope there are still some available for THIS Saturday. ugh /fail.

@lindseykaye: I totally failed too; I kept thinking oh the time slot is still open so we're good, but when I actually went into the showtimes, of course all the good seats are gone! So now we keep pushing back when we're gonna see it, since it's also impossible to coordinate with another family!
