I am currently taking RAD Rape Aggression Defense course given by my local police department.
The instructors said moms with their children are very vulnerable because LOs are big distractions.

Yep, I took one in high school and thought it was very helpful! Haven't used any of the physical stuff, but I think tips about being hyper aware of your surroundings were really helpful.

I took one in college and I'd happily take another course. I'm also interested in boxing as a way of improving upper body strength and control, as another safeguard. I think it's SO important for women to feel strong and effectively defend themselves!

@tororojo: The instructors drilled be aware! Today, I realized I simply open my front door to leave. Starting tomorrow I will take a peek out of the peep hole and make sure the coast is clear.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: One random thing that stuck with me (from my class over 10 yrs ago) was when you're walking through the mall planning to go to your car, don't take your keys out early and carry them in your hand the rest of the way--if anyone is watching for people to jump in the parking lot, that's a really easy way to mark yourself as a target who's about to leave. So now I don't dig for keys until I'm out the door. Also I always lock my car doors the minute I get in, and when I park and the doors automatically unlock, I lock them back if I'm not ready to get out yet/messing with my phone, etc.

Nope but I'm sure it would be beneficial to. I am always mindful of my surroundings, where I'm parked, who is parked next to me, and I try to remember to lock the doors as soon as I get in the car though.

I took a thai boxing/self defense class when I was in middle school. Then I started attending Tae Kwon Do classes starting in HS and throughout college.
