@regberadaisy: we have "only" taken her to Cleveland, Oh (road trip), Southport, NC (road trip) and Pensacola, FL (flight) to visit family. Those were BIG trips for us even if they were just to see family. You've been away!

Also, she's only 14 months old. She doesn't know any differently yet. Save your money for when she KNOWS where you're going and try not to let everyone else's trips get you upset. You're doing the right thing for your family.

We've taken DD to tons of places. DS is going on his first plane ride July 9th!

I wouldn't feel about about it though. She's young!

We haven't taken Lilly anywhere yet really. I'm really hoping we can do something soon!

You are not depriving her... She has no clue. We have been places with LO, but she couldn't care less!

I totally think Toronto and NYC count!

We've taken him on one biggish trip, to Lake Placid for a night and then a cabin in NH for a weekend. With family. And next month we're heading down to NC for a beach vacation, also with family. Most of my vacations that I remember from growing up were visiting family. This way you can save money to go on an awesome trip when she's old enough to remember (and appreciate!) it!

@regberadaisy: I count visits to family! We are going to 'try' to take her on a weekend trip as a family when she's 6 months, but the money might not work out. Until we have a trip fund established, our vacations will be to visit family and get a change of scenery! Nothing wrong with that!

I was actually just thinking the other day that we've taken LO to so many different places and its gone be a huge bummer that she won't remember any of it. So I wouldn't be too upset that you're not traveling now!

If you want to do something low cost though, maybe a camping trip?

I think that taking very young children (under three) on vacations is great for getting them used to the idea of travel as a fun thing that you do as a family. That's about it. I just took my daughter to New Orleans, but only because my husband was there for work. We had a lovely time, but it was a bit sad to think that she won't remember it. And 14 months is awfully young to worry about this stuff.

I think those trips to family count! And no, you're def not depriving her. We took DD to the San Diego Zoo when she was 20-months thinking it might be cool for her to see animals.... yea she couldn't care less. In fact, her favorite "exhibit" was the grown man dressed up as a panda bear! Sheesh. Go figure.

Our kids don't need much except our love and affection, and I know yours is probably getting a ton of that.

@matador84: I felt this way too with my toddler and my extreme fear of flying. And it was great! We just watched Curious George and looked out the window the entire time. It bet you'd do better than you think!
