Anyone taken their LO on the bus yet? How old was LO? Did it go Ok?
Are they even allowed on the bus??

We don't have a car so rely on transit and I've taken her on the bus a few times. I always wear her though, I can't imagine the hell that a stroller/bus combo would bring!

LOs are not only allowed on the bus... but they are usually free under a certain age!
I bring the kids on the bus all the time... Charlie loves loves loves the bus. Today we went to Governor's Island and on the way there, we took the double stroller onto the bus. When we boarded, I put the stroller over my shoulder and carried Charlie onto the bus. It wasn't not bad at all! The kids just love the bus.

Oh sure! LO first rode the bus at three weeks. It's just part of city living. I definitely prefer to wear her, but I've done the stroller before. The only non-public transit bus ride she took was on a charter bus between the ceremony and reception of my BIL's wedding. For some reason, that one made me way more nervous.

LO rides the bus all the time! I think she probably took her first bus ride when she was a few weeks old and we went in to the city to meet daddy for lunch. Living in an urban area, we take public transport a lot; we do have a car but I prefer the ease of hopping on and off a bus or train. The drivers are always super friendly and lower the bus if it's a hydraulic bus, and then wait until I have LO's pram in the wheelchair area, pressed up against the cushion meant to stop rolling, with the brakes engaged. I've never had a problem and love it!
Of course we've just moved now and are walking distance everywhere so we probably won't be taking public transport much, but I miss it! The 20 minute bus ride was 20 minutes for me to sit back, relax, and read a book whilst LO watched the world go by.

Yup! It's a fun adventure for them. They love the bus! We can stroll our stroller right onto the bus so it's super convenient. But our kids don't really use strollers anymore though.

Thanks everyone!
I've never taken LO on a moving vehicle without a car seat so it makes me a little nervous.

I've taken my son on a bus, but only when he's been in his stroller. He's not been in there on a bus seat, I don't trust him to sit properly!

I took LO on the bus to Ikea at around 8 weeks. I was nervous too but I wore him and it was no biggie. I sat on the seats facing the interior so just in case something happened that made me lurch forward, he wouldn't get slammed into the seat in front of me.

LOs been on the bus a lot. I prefer to babywear her on the bus, while DH prefers to bring the stroller. We just have to collapse the stroller.
@regberadaisy: I'm the opposite--it's the cars that make me nervous with LO, the bus & trains not at all.

I see babies on my bus in strollers fairly regularly, and only once in a carrier I think. That's probably just due to base rates of stroller use vs. babywearing though! The rule for our buses is that children under 46" are free with a fare-paying adult.

We took LO on an hour bus ride when she was 12 months. It was right after a plane ride and as soon as the bus started moving she pooped and of course the diapers were in the carry on that was under the bus. I'd had diapers in both our carryons and somehow they got switched around as I was going through stuff once we got off the plane....ugh. So, it took a lot of distracting and booby snacks and a bit of whining to get through it but it wasn't too painful. If we had remembered a diaper or hadn't just taken a plane ride that threw everything off the bus ride would have been easy peasy.

sure! the only time it was mildly disastrous was when there was already a pram on the bus when I got on! there was only one wheelchair/stroller spot on the bus, so I just had to completely block the aisle til the other mama got off. people were very understanding though, so it wasn't bad!

I have been thinking about taking P on the bus soon, too. They say the stroller has to be folded up and out of the isle, but I know I will need it, especially if we will be out for most of the day. So, I am thinking I will bring the stroller, but wear her in the ergo on the actual bus. For some reason I feel like this will be safer than just holding her on my lap (like if there is an accident she won't go flying...).

Yep, i've taken her on the bus and train. If we're on the train, i will take her out of the stroller and she'll sit on my lap or next to me. If we're on the bus i keep her in the stroller.
