I've always wanted to try it! I saw some today but it was really expensive, so I got some Durian cookies instead. They were pretty good!

Haha durian! Are you in Singapore by any chance? It's banned on the subway there because it smells so strongly!
I tried it because I was curious, but it tasted like rotten mangos.

My parents like it but I'm not a fan...it looks like a cheesy mess and it smells strong!

Me and durian had an encounter in Thailand. I'm not a fan!

ugh, I could barely get past the smell of the fresh stuff. I am not a fan.

Lol.
I'm the first one to vote that I liked it. I actually loooove durian. My family are big durian eaters. It's definitely an acquired taste. But once you love it, you just do

@Mrs. Jacks: haha same. We got some from DH's family while in Thailand for the "experience"'of it. Long story short, DH had to find a random dumpster in Bangkok because no way in hell was I willingly taking it into my hotel room.
I don't think it tastes as bad as it smells though.

I like the thai durian paste and frozen ones (tastes like ice cream)

I don't know if I would try it, but I'd love to smell it. I just think it's so crazy that a fruit can smell so terrible. And it was only like one of two items I've ever seen Andrew Zimmern think was absolutely inedible, so I'm fascinated by it.

@looch: haha nope, south florida!

I had it and its ok. I did have to hold my nose while eating it.
I brought back candy for my coworkers to try. It wasn't that bad.

That stuff is foul! I'm usually an adventurous eater, but at durian I draw the line!

I tried it in Thailand too. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but I didn't keep eating it either! Apparently the durian in Malaysia or Indonesia is the strongest. Don't think I'll be trying that ever tho.

My dad used to love durian and it would stink up the whole house for weeks! I'm not a fan!

I've only had durian jam. I think that was enough for me, not sure if I'll ever try the real thing. It was weird.

Yes, my first experience was in college when I took a farming in underdeveloped countries class. It was really fun, we got a world tour of trying out all sorts of exotic foods without leaving our classroom. One of my favorite classes ever!
The next time was in Fiji on our honeymoon, we got to try out all sorts of "new" things to shock the tourists, but I'd had everything already. It was really entertaining to watch my husband try it all out.
I remember seeing a similar sign in class: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian

I tried durian ice cream at a Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle. Sort of tasted like dish soap...but in an ok way, heh. I finished it, but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for another encounter!

I've never tried it. I had never even heard of it before seeing Andrew Zimmern eat it and hate it.
