We are going to Florida and need to take our carseat. We have the infant bucket seat that you put in the base. Has anyone used their bucket seat without the base? Did it work ok?
I have a Britax and Britax does have a video on how to do it on their website. Just wondering if anyone here has ever done it.

I've done it with a Chicco & a few gracos. It's pretty simple & they have to be crash tested that way, so they still meet safety standards so it's not unsafe or anything. The base would be such a pain to travel with!

All the time. The base is just for convenience. You don't have to use it.

We do whenever travelling in someone else's car. Ours was so simple to do.

We never use a base (even though we have one) because we don't own a car.

Oh yeah, we did it a lot without graco. I was able to get a TIGHT install without the base. We did it while traveling and in friends cars

Oh good. I'm so glad it's something that is normal to do. The video makes it look easy! I really didn't want to travel with that base!

Yep, it's perfectly safe as long as you strap it in properly with the seat belt. The first time I did it I didn't know that you have to pull the seat belt all the way to lock it so it doesn't move anymore after it retracts. Oops.

Yep, we just got back from vacation and didn't bring our base. It was fine. We have the Britax chaperone and the base was too big to bother traveling with.

You can definitely do it. The base is a convenienc item and isn't require for the seat to be safe.

I have done it a handful of times. I feel totally secure doing it, you just have to torque the crap out of the belt!

Yes, I've done it. Have you checked You Tube for videos? Britax has a channel that I've used to check on tethering a convertible.

DH never used the base in his car because he has long legs and has to have his seat back all the way and the base made the bucket seat not fit. As MrBee said, the base is really for convenience.

All the time! we only have 1 base (in DH car) so in my car I just use the seat belt.
