Ever since reading Mrs. Train's incredible post about Santa Claus being real in her household... I"ve wanted to give my kids the same experience!

I think that maybe this year, I'll ask a friend to dress up as Santa on Christmas Eve and come on over! The problem is that the kids know my friend very well, so maybe they'll figure it out? Or maybe they'll just be swept away by the magic of the moment... what do you guys think?

Santa was never a live person to us (he existed, but we didn't "meet" him) but my sister got an awesome and really personal letter from him one year (that she still has), and her son would NOT go to bed when he was four or five, so Santa called and said he wouldn't stop and visit if he wasn't in bed fast asleep. He's 16 now and still talks about it fondly.
I like the magic of not seeing him. Of believing in something even if you've never seen it (we didn't really do the mall santas either and knew they weren't real)

We met Santa in the NICU last year! I'm not going to go out of my way to propagate it though. I plan to treat him like Elmo or something - just a character.

@mrbee: That's cool but no we haven't and don't plan to. I have told my DS that Santa only comes when you are asleep so if I stick to that plan he will wonder why he is there when he is awake. He knows the mall Santa's are just "helpers"

There is a local cupcake company around here that does Santa visits and my friend hires them to come to her house. Santa tells all the kids a story and they get to sit on his lap and every kid gets a cupcake. Last year, P was completely terrified of Santa but I am really, really hoping that she will love it this year.
