We got R a little pumpkin over the weekend and we were thinking about having her paint it. Going to make some edible finger paint and let her go at it.
Is this a disaster waiting to happen? Any tips? Also any good recipes?
She is 7.5 months.

I just did this with E this weekend, but I used the washable, non-toxic crayola paint. I used the tutorial from YHL, and they turned out alright. He smeared around the paint too much and they ended up kind of brown all over. But he seemed to enjoy the activity for 15 min or so. He's 17 months though.

@kiddosc: They look great!! I was looking their tutorial. Is that paint edible? I have to have edible cause R thinks everything belongs in her mouth.
@littlek: how so?

We tried this with paper cutouts last week, it should be fun, just avoid my mistakes-
I chose a bad time of day when he was tired, so he wasn't putting up with much.
I also made the mistake of putting him in his high chair and paints on a plate, so he thought he was eating- I would do a different context (next time he will in in the high chair, but without the tray, probably pushed up against the dining table). No way do I trust him with paints on a tarp indoors now that he's walking if he were crawling it wouldn't be an issue.

We're going to do either paint or markers w/ our 18-month old. She has a longer attention span than a younger baby though, and actively enjoys drawing at this stage. I think it will be fun!

@Smurfette: It's non-toxic, but probably not edible. It's just the off the shelf crayola stuff.
We also did this on a sheet in the yard. But we're in Texas and it was still 80 degrees this weekend.

@lemondrop: I was thinking right after a nap and bottle. I think it is going to be too cold outside to do it her diaper, but was thinking getting a plastic tablecloth and doing it on the kitchen tile floor.

@Smurfette: @Freckles: B had NO interest in finger painting, he wanted to run around and play. What he did finger paint blended together and looks like poop (colors blended to make brown) on the pumpkin.

Pretty similar to @littlek: the paint he got on his fingers upset him, but it was a hilarious experience! We have a couple cute paper pumpkin cutouts, it will be a good memory at the very least I may have laughed a little too hard when he tried to eat the paint...

@lemondrop: hahahaha same thing happened to B. There was more paint on B than on the pumpkin.

We had LO paint her pumpkin. We put her in her big plastic swimming pool in the middle of the kitchen. All the mess was inside there, so DH just went outside and hosed it out. She wore a diaper, and we just used crayola washable paint. She is 17 months.

@Adira: I made some edible paint yesterday but was so watery. and it just ran off the pumpkin. So I never put in front of R.

@Smurfette: Oh, bummer that didn't really work out for you! Maybe you'll have to try again when she's less prone to stick it in her mouth!

@Adira: I am sad. Hopefully by next year she will past putting everything and it's mother in her mouth.

@Smurfette: haha, yeah, I'm looking forward to Xander being past that phase too!

We did pumpkin painting at an event this weekend, and C got blue paint all over his costume and it won't come out. Something to keep in mind (fail).
