Has anyone dealt with this? I'm not sure if my DD (3y2m) is developing a hearing issue, or if she is just developing a laser focus and blocks out all external stimuli.
It takes almost shouting sometimes to get her attention (like calling her name 4+ times before it registers with her if she's in the middle of something), she has been saying "what?" a lot more often, and yesterday she asked me to turn up Mr. Rogers on TV bc it was too quiet (it was at a pretty normal volume to me). That last bit was the thing that concerned me.
I didn't really think of it to be a hearing issue until yesterday, because DH has sort of a "block everything out" trait (whereas I get distracted at the drop of a hat and immediately drop everything when someone is trying to get my attention). She has great speech and is ahead of a lot of others in her age group, but these recent behaviors kind of make me nervous.
I just don't want to go a long time before addressing an issue if there is one - I didn't get glasses until 5th grade and probably should have had them years earlier. Just wondering if this is typical behavior or cause for concern, or if all 3 year olds basically ignore you lol
Also, if this doesn't seem normal, would you bring them to their pediatrician for an evaluation or is there another route to take? I'm assuming the ped would evaluate it and refer her to an audiologist or ENT or something if they thought it was cause for concern.
