Oh my gosh that is terrible! I would never even think to anchor my furniture, honestly....

This happened to a cousin of a girl I went to school with. Just awful.
We rent and I know we can't anchor/bolt things to walls. We'll have to consider changing out our furniture around when DS gets a little bigger.

My college roommate's brother lost one of his twins when the baby was crawling up a bookshelf that fell on top of him. I had never thought of anchoring furniture before, but I've told DH that story and we will definitely be anchoring everything.

This is such an eye opener, LO is only 3 months old, but we will be doing this before she gets any bigger!

My furniture is secured because a dresser fell on me as a child. I was trying to get something from the top, and used the drawers like stairs. The dresser toppled over one me and the glass mirror above it shattered all around me. My mom heard the crash, ran into the room, and could not see me under the dresser/broken glass. She said that she was sure I was dead and was hysterical. Luckily I was somehow unharmed.... but yeah, I can only imagine. When we moved to our new house, I had everything anchored, even though I was still pregnant.

This is awful! we desperately need to anchor our furniture. LO is crawling and pulling up on everything and We have tall top heavy bookshelves in the living room, we will be doing this ASAP!

we planned to anchor bookcases & TVs because of Brace It for Brayden ( http://braceitforbrayden.org/ ), but never thought about furniture.. how heartbreaking

That's so sad. I was already planning to anchor furniture but this reminded me that I need to get on that soon before LO gets mobile.

my gosh... I couldn't even read the whole thing... I am dying in side.

We mounted our TV for this very reason... actually it was all thanks to Mr. Bee's post awhile back and then reading the TV safety website.

@rachiecakes: @runsyellowlites: We bought a bookcase with anchors and I didn't even think to ask the landlord about whether we can anchor or not... I guess it will be worth it to lose our deposit for a little peace of mind.

The crazy thing is the size of the dresser that fell on her - It was a tiny baby dresser... my god.. We've talked about securing the larger pieces but not his dresser.

@Mrs. Pen: Since first reading & replying I've pretty much decided that we're going to anchor EVERYTHING and I don't really care if we lose our deposit. We'll putty up the holes & go from there... it's worth it in my book.
