Our guest room that will be the nursery is chilly. DH insulated the window today, just to test out if we can notice a difference.
I'm curious how dangerous it is to have an additional heater in the nursery. Also -- on the same note, are humidifiers dangerous? I read an article that said that humidifiers create bacteria that is hazardous to babies a while back and was curious if this is true.
How many of you have a heater and/or humidifier in your LO's nursery?

We keep DS's room on the cool side, it's better for them to sleep in a cooler room (reduces SIDS risk, among other factors).
We used a humidifier only when he had a cold at about 10 months. There's a lot of debate about whether a cool mist or warm mist humidifier is best, we used a cool mist one, which is what DH had from his single days.

What is the temperature in that room? I find that 69 and below feels a bit chilly but that is still supposedly a "safe" temperature for babies. We make sure that it doesn't go below 70 in our house.
We've had a space heater in the nursery before. I think our furnace blew out and we needed to do something temporarily. It was OK since she wasn't walking yet, couldn't climb out of her crib, and I was careful about it. I would be a little worried about using it in the long term, though.
I am not sure about bacteria with humidifiers but we always used a cool mist one. I suppose there could be bacteria because humidifiers are pretty hard to get completely clean. This year we installed humidifiers directly into our heating system so hopefully that is a little cleaner.

We had a humidifier in LO's room but I turned it off. Will probably start it up again in a few days once I clean and disinfect it. Out of vinegar so need to pick some more up!

We have a cool-mist humidifier - it helps with LO's eczema. I used to be worried about her room getting too cold but with her baby deedee sleep sack, it keeps her toasty warm all night!

we run a cool mist humidifier every day. even my sinuses and throat get dry from the heater, so babies' sinuses must be even more sensitive. plus charlie is always battling a cold that he caught at daycare. we keep a hygrometer in the room to measure the humidity to keep it around 50% to make sure the humidity isn't too high.
we've also had a heater in our previous apartment. the vornado is great because it is like a fan, isn't hot to the touch, and warms the room very nicely.

i heard it's the warm humidifiers that really have problems with bacteria. we got a cool one (for ourselves) and we're supposed to clean it once a week.
i think it's better to keep the room cool and just dress your baby warmly than keep it warm and overheat the baby. but i dunno, i wouldn't know.

oh and we clean the humidifier every day with vinegar. it gets too dirty to even let it go 2-3 days.

yeah, we have both in Livs room. It can get to 67 in there even with our heat set at 70 (she has a huge picture window in there) so we have a vornado heater and keep it at 70. We also have the Crane Cool Mist humidifer in there. We clean it at least once a week with vinegar to be sure there is no bacteria build up
