You can heat things up on the stove or oven! It's not as quick, but if it's only for a few days you can survive.

@Raindrop: LOL! We don't have a microwave and haven't had one for almost 3 years. Depending on what it is, we use the oven, stovetop / steam.

My over the oven microwave essentially exploded last week, so I feel your pain. They don't make the right size anymore, so I'm waiting on edge to see if they can replace parts, or if we have to have cabinets moved.

We've been doing a lot of baked meals that purposely don't make leftovers salmon for us, chicken nuggets/fish sticks for kids), and fruit/bread/salads as sides. Or making just enough pasta for one meal. Thibgs we already had (Thai noodle dishes, lentils, tacos, etc.) ive been quickly heating in a sayce/frying pan on the stove. Annoying and makes lots of dishes, but it works

Lol we didn't have a microwave for years! You can make it until Tuesday - just reheat things on the stove. You might need to add some water to things that you wouldn't normally so it doesnt get dried out or burnt. Or just don't make anything that will have leftovers.

I use the stove or oven to heat things up if I'm not using the microwave. I typically splash a little water on things just to make sure it doesn't dry out.

The steam fresh veggies that you prickly with a fork and put in the microwave can be used in a skillet or baking dish.

Haven't owned one in years. I really miss microwave popcorn, but that's it. I'd still use the oven or the stove to reheat things, just to keep them from being soggy and gross.

@Raindrop: haha I just replied in your dinner thread. I'm Chinese so I always steam rice leftovers! Only time I use microwave for that is at work.

@Raindrop: put rice in a saucepan with a couple tablespoons of water and heat it on medium-low, then fluff with a fork.

I actually rarely use the microwave because to me the food tastes worse. Things like meat and chicken, I heat up on a frying pan with a little bit of water or butter/oil, rice and potatoes can be warmed in a pot, same with liquids.

I lived without one until I was 17 and moved out and my roommate had one. My parents have never had one and still don't! They just use the oven or stove. They didn't get a toaster oven until a few years ago.

I love cold leftovers. My parents don't so they just heat it up with a bit of oil or water depending on what it is. Although my mum takes advantage of using our microwave when she is over if her food gets cold she requests it get nuked. She likes steaming hot food though and eats slower than me!

@Raindrop: I just posted a desperate plea on my local parenting listserv to see if I can scrounge one up. Tons of people are renovating brownstones right now, so I'm hoping I can find someone who is gutting their kitchen and wants to upgrade to a bigger one and sell me the small one.
