I had a similar experience with the reflux. I understand where you are coming from. We didn't have much help from family because we lived so far away. Hugs!

Oh man. If you look at the threads I started on HB early on, they were all exactly like this.

And now my LO is 2.5 and I'm totally freakin' obsessed with her. A) She was a sh*tty, tough baby who never slept, had reflux and was colicky B) I had PPD so don't overlook this possibility and C) I don't like parenting babies. Period. I like parenting toddlers. They're more fun.

    It'll get better

Having a newborn is SO hard. It seems like you've already been though a lot and, even though it doesn't seem like it, things will get better soon. I absolutely thought that I had made a mistake in having my daughter (colic, MSPI, reflux - the works). Things get better day by day and one day you'll realize that you can breathe again, you'll feel like yourself again. Take care of yourself and know that many of us here have felt the same way!

Reading this post really helped me through the six week struggles with both of my kids:

@Portboston: I haven't read through the whole thread but I promise promise it does get better! My LO had reflux but we didn't figure that out until about 8 weeks. The 6-8 week timeframe was awful! Halloween last year was right at 7 weeks and it was straight up the worst day. A lot of people told me it gets better at 6, 8, 10, 12 weeks and I'm not going to lie to you - it didn't get markedly better for us until 16 weeks. Reflux meds definitely helped though - if you don't see improvement on the Zantac, don't be afraid to ask the ped about it. We started Zantac at 8 weeks, increased the dosage at 10 weeks, and switched to omeprazole at 11-12 weeks. Once that kicked in, it was life-changing.

Anyway: you are not alone, the beginning really REALLY sucks sometimes but I promise you will get through it. DS is turning 1 this week and as bad as it sucked at times, I really do miss it!! During the first four months we swore he would be an only child and now we are planning on 3! Wall me anytime to commiserate or ask reflux questions. I promise it gets better!! Hang in there!

Just wanted to share since we are experiencing the same issues. I mentioned it to my sister in law who was a nurse at a children's hospital and is now a nurse practitioner, she suggested probiotics to help with the reflux. I was skeptical so I did a little research and it actually appears to be highly suggested. One of the causes of reflux can be an imbalance of the gut flora which causes gas and forces open the LES, allowing the acid to reflux. I'm planning on getting some ASAP tomorrow, since probiotics is something I believe in for general gut health anyway so if it might help for this, I'm willing to try it! Just thought I would share. I will update on whether it helps or not.

No advice but I went through similar feelings. I did have PPD/PPA but even without it, those issues are tough. It gets easier! And so much more rewarding! Seriously, at six weeks I was crying to DH that I thought maybe we should put DD up for adoption. That sounds embarrassing now but I honestly felt on the edge of something terrible happening to all of us. At just about 3, I think I'm doing a pretty decent job with her, and it just gets better and better. Hang in there! ETA and as proof it gets easier, we're getting close to having #2. At that point I SWORE I was one and done. It gets better!

I don't have advice on reflux. And I did not read all the responses. I will say we had some breastfeeding issues and T was hospitalized for dehydration. I got mastitis. Anyways. It was not always easy. 10 weeks was a real turning point, hang in these.

@getjazzy: we just started on a probiotic today! I got one from my pharmacy that's we're breaking open and giving to him as well as Ferber soothe drops since they have different strains. I'm also doing a digestive enzyme after my meals to help break down proteins so it's easier on his tummy & ive cut dairy...oh the joys of being a mommy. Hopefully the probiotic helps both of us!!

Like many have said above: it gets better-I promise, promise it does. I bet he's just around the corner from giving you some smiles, and they will make you feel like a million bucks! 6 weeks is the peak of the fussiness. Any chance you might be able to have a few nights of a night nurse/PP doula? At 6 weeks is when I cried uncle, had a PP doula come for 5 nights over the span of a few weeks, and it made a HUGE difference. Getting even 5-6 hours of uninterrupted sleep made everything, everything better. It was a little expensive but since I was nursing (not paying for formula) and we weren't going out to eat or anything, I felt the money was SO worth it. Also, can you join a local Meetup.com group with babies around the same age, or a Facebook group? Getting out for coffee with another mom in the trenches like you are can also help!
