I'm going to go with tarantula. That is what we have all over my parents neighborhood.

We were at a cabin this weekend and found a spider. My friend texted her husband and he said poisonous ones have red on them.

@rawrasaur: i'm agreeing with you. even though i know nothing about spiders because i avoid looking at them, reading about them, thinking about them...
i hate spiders.
also, i vote for moving.

I think it's probably a texas tarantula... based on it's stubby and hairy appearance... but there are lots of other interesting spiders it could be!
It could also be a wolf spider.

Spiders don't bother me too much, but I would flip if I saw this guy!! I'd wear shoes to the bathroom from now on for sure!

@Mrs. Jacks: we're in Texas!
@rawrasaur: tarantula was my first thought but I've only ever seen them as pets.
@mrs. 64: I semi-like spiders and let them live. This one made me jump though!
@swedishfish: he's still there. He's deceased, by no fault of me.. Making FI dispose of him.
@pinkcupcake: he is the creepiest one I've ever found.

I don't think this kind is too big of a deal based on morphology (body shape)- probably venomous (many are to a degree), but usually it's a pretty mild venom to humans unlike a black widow, brown recluse, or some other exotic species.
I agree with @Mrs. Jacks: probably a wolf spider since they are quite common, but (my differentials ) could be a Texas tarantula or a nursery web spider. At any rate, it looks quite dead to me. If you are really interested, a state university/extension office can tell you what kind it is and if you should be concerned.

@Smurfette: Black widows have red on them, but not all poisonous spiders do by any means. A common one here in the USA is the brown recluse (nasty things). They are brown, no red. I think they have a violin shape on their back?

I keep peeking at it and then scrolling away. It kind of looks like a stuffed animal if you look quick enough. I'd be freaked that it was in my house and I have no idea if venomous or not.

@lemondrop: I'm so impressed with your spider knowledge! Teach me more!

Baby wolf spider! We have them here, too. They are perfectly harmless and actually EAT brown recluse spiders (which we have a lot of here)
actually, maybe not. THIS is a baby wolf spider

What a cool looking spider! I have no idea what it is, but I would definitely want to know, in an "I'm curious" kind of way

Aw, I think he's kinda cute! Haha I have no idea what kind of spider that it though. I've never seen one here I don't think.

@Mrs. Jacks: lol, I am a total science geek and spent entirely to much time in the zoology labs in college. One thing I have to give my college (Northern AZ Univ) was their amazing plant and animal collections. I could have (and kind of did) live in there exploring the collections.
Of course these days, the interwebs makes taxonomy easy! To me the best thing I can pass to my boys is a curiosity about the natural world around them... but career-wise it ends up you either go into veterinary medicine like myself and my husband, or you ask "would you like fries with that"

Oooh... sent chills down my spine! Mostly b/c it's thick and hairy! Hope it's dead?
