Trying to narrow in on a girl's name. Some of you may know my grandmother passed away two weeks ago. She was so excited for her first great-granddaughter, so I want to honor her by giving the baby a middle name from her. Her name was Rachel Lucille, so I am considering both. Thoughts with our first name of Abigail (Abby)? We're not sharing her name till she's born, so other than my husband, I can't get a lot of opinions. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, that has to be tough. But what a beautiful tribute to her.
I think Abigail Rachel sounds really nice. It’s my favorite but they’re all pretty.
I wouldn’t consider how Abby sounds with them though. Middle names are rarely used in conjunction with the abbreviated first name/nick name. So id just consider what sounds good with Abigail.

What name feels more like an honor name to you? My daughter has her grandmother's name as well. She had a very old-sounding, grandma name (Dorothy) but a middle name this is popular now (Rose). We considered using my grandmother's middle name as DD's middle name, but ultimately, I didn't have a strong connection linking the name Rose to my grandma. It didn't feel like an honor name to me. I am SO HAPPY we used my grandmother's first name as my daughter's middle name. It makes me smile and think of her every time I have to write it and I can't wait to teach my daughter all about the amazing woman she is named after.

I like Abigail Lucy because the others feel to me like the "L" sounds kind of start to run together and make it slightly more difficult to say. I agree with a PP though, pick the name that you feel honors her best. For a nickname I love either Abby Ray (for Rachel) or Abby Lu (for the other two), the two names would just flow together and I think it sounds so cute!

They all sound great! I like Lucille the best for the middle
then she can say her and her great grandma had the same middle name. And when I use my kids middle names, they are getting in trouble typically and I use their full first name, not nick name. Haha!

While I like the name Lucille better than Rachel if your gramdmom was known by her first name I'd use that- voted that way too.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - some very good things to think about! Of course, after having Abigail picked for months, today DH decides he wants to look at names again "just to be sure"

I would also use the name she was best known by. Our DD is Abigail (Abi) Eileen after my grandmother that passed. My grandmother was Ruth Eileen but she didn't like Ruth and went by Eileen.
then she can say her and her great grandma had the same middle name.
