I realize that the odds of people who don't even know him helping me to really think of a gift are low... but I'm desperate here so I'm just grasping at straws.
I need a 60th birthday gift for my dad. Normally I don't worry so much about these things and just get whatever (clothes, books, art stuff) because he is really hard to buy for and I never have great ideas. But I really want a GREAT idea for this birthday because it is his 60th and because he has had a really hard year.
About him: Very handy (works in construction), likes sports somewhat (broncos) but not really a huge sports guy, into art (he paints and draws and plays guitar but he has all the supplies for these things i can think of), he is very into riding his motorcycle (but i don't think he needs anything there?), he likes technology but already has a lot of it (iPhone, iPad, other tablet, kindle fire), he likes scuba diving but says he doesn't need any more gear for that (and i got him a scuba magazine subscription for xmas). he has a lot of tattoos and wants more. He is into fitness and works out a lot in the gym (weight lifting mostly) and rides his bicycle outside a few times/week (already has a gps thing to track his rides and also a heart monitor. he has too many things). He likes good red wine but has a lot of it.
Parameters: around $100, is something I can have purchased and wrapped in a week, probably not an experience type thing because its hard for me and him to get time alone together right now (he isn't local).
Currently my best idea is giving him $100 towards his next tattoo. I like that its something he'll definitely use and that I could contribute to something long lasting. But.... he doesn't really need my money. And I feel awkward giving him cash. So I guess that is the backup plan but I'd love if I could think of something.
Sorry I know this is a dumb thing to crowd source but I've been racking my brain for weeks and who knows, maybe someone will come up with something. Worth a shot!
