OMG, I don't know. I was thinking about suggesting that spray that keeps pets off furniture but I don't know if that is safe for the baby.

My friend has a cat and she doesn't like her cat on the kitchen counter. She has this thing that sprays a puff of air at the cat when she gets on the counter. I wonder if something like that would work.

Maybe use that for the mattress and the spray for the other furniture.

we had this problem with our cat once, except he was peeing in our laundry basket. We first took him to the vet to be sure it wasn't a UTI since that sometimes causes them to avoid there box and seek softer areas. After that was ruled out, we figured it was a behavior problem. Have you changed litter, or box location? Are you keeping the box super clean? Cats are very picky! To fix our problem, we put him in a small room with only his food, water, and box. We were told not to interact with him at all, and to only go in there to check his food etc. After a few days, when we saw he was consistently using only his box, we let him out for small periods each day while supervised. We eventually let him out longer and longer, and it fixed our problem! We also bought him 2 brand new boxes, instead of the one older one so it'd have a fresh new smell, and he have a choice of which box he wanted to use. It was hard to ignore him, and we felt really bad but it worked!

As for keeping him out of the crib, I read if you put balloons in there, when they jump in they will burst and scare the cat from doing it again. I have no tips on the smell. Sorry. Other than I know it's really important to get it out as much as possible so they don't smell the old urine and start going there agian.

@Mrs. Superhero: so, I don't mean to be a Debbie downer on nature's miracle but, after having problem -child pets, I've learned it's really just an expensive thing that doesn't work. I have never been through what you're going through, minus the baby. Clover started peeing and we had no clue why. No uti (definitely get that checked). Here's what we did to try to combat it:
-we bought more litter pans. We put one in every room where she was peeing.
-if there was a room we didn't want the pan in, we shut the door. She hated us for it but learned to live with it.
-separated her food and water from the other cat. Gave her a "safe" place to be. Also put a litter pan in there so only she could use it.

Im so sorry you're having to deal with this. She may be acting out because of the guests and she may be scared that things are changing and doesn't know what to do.

If changes you make to help her don't help, my suggestion is talking to the vet about it. One of the dogs we have now pees in the house. It's going to sound crazy but after 4 years of dealing with it, we put her on prozak for dogs. It has helped immensely!! She hasn't peed on our carpet or sofas since she went on it.

I hope you can figure it out. I feel your pain and know there is not much more frustrating than dealing with animals misbehaving while you have a ton of other things you are dealing with!!

Did you change the brand of cat litter you use?

Simple, but this happened to my sister - she didn't realize Her husband bought a different brand and they went back.

Or - you may want to have the cat checked out at the vet - something could be wrong and that is his/her way of telling you.
