Hi all. Liv is 8 months old. She had a pretty nasty cold last week, and this week it seems that she might be cutting one or both of her top teeth. She has been on a nursing strike since saturday and its killing me. She wouldnt take a bottle the first few days, so we had to give her milk in a regular adult cup or a sippy cup, but now she will take the bottle. If I offer her the breast or even try to put her in a nursing position, she bucks and pushes me away and throws a fit. She does that if I even try to give her a bottle in that position. Ive even tried to dreamfeed her and she wakes up pissed off that she is being held in that position (guess the bonus is she is cutting her night feeding out on her own...) I dont know whats going on with her. Do you think its the pain? Or possibly ear pain? She has no fever, no ear pulling, no symptoms of anything except teething. Id just think that if she can suck her bottle (still with the infant flow nipple on it) then nursing wouldnt be much different.
I just keep thinking "What if I nursed her for the last time and didnt know?" and thats making me cry lol.
RJ self-weaned around 7 months... that's when they get more interested in the world around them and get distracted from nursing. It could be a phase... I would say keep trying and at the same time, try to enjoy the bottle feeding even though it's not the same physical bond as nursing. I didn't enjoy nursing so weaning wasn't sad for me, but I could totally see how it could be sad, especially if you didn't initiate it. However, watching him learn how to feed himself the bottle and solid foods was also a joyful process.
