I don't know why this bothers me so much but it does. It really grates on my nerves... Maybe it's because I don't have the best relationship with my mother.
She always calls E "her" baby.... "How's my baby today?" " has my baby done such and such" arrrrggghhhh. I pretty sure I gave birth to him. That makes him mine. Well mine & DH. You may call him YOUR grandson... But he is not your baby.
Totally a ridiculous problem I know... I should be grateful she loves him.... Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets bothered by this??

I'm bracing for this with my MIL. I know I'm gonna have to nip it in the bud. I worked way too hard to get this kid. She better not try that. I'll correct her everytime.

Yep bothered me too! In addition my MIL would say to me "how is mommy today?" Ummm, I am NOT your mommy so don't call me that!!!

@Mrs squirreld: both my mom and MIL do this. It kinda grated on me at first with my mom, but she took care of LMW full time for the first 6 months of her life so I don't mind. After all, she really did experience everything firsthand AND did so much work. But when my MIL does it, it drives me crazy. I shouldn't "favor" my mom over my MIL in terms of what they're allowed to call my kids, but in this situation I can't help it. My mom gave up 6 months of her life and my MIL only comes for weekend visits maybe 3-4 times a year.

Haha not the only one. I try really hard not to let it bug me, but often if I go out shopping with my mom, she will kind of grab the stroller from me and say "while we out he's mine and I get to push!"

It doesn't bother me personally, but I know a lot of people do get offended when others refer to their LO as "my baby."

Both of our moms do this sometimes, but it doesn't bother me too much. My mom was with us for pretty much the 1st 7-8 weeks of the twins lives and she would get up to do night feedings with me, so she's earned it! I know a lot of people are bugged by this, but as long as they aren't calling themselves "mama" or something, I'm okay with it.
Maybe you could casually correct her if it's really grating at you, i.e. when she says, "How's my baby?" you could say in a regular voice, no emphasis, "Your grandson is having a great day."

This bothered me, probably a little too much in the early days. At around six weeks we went over to her house and she made some comment along the lines of, "I've missed her, I feel like she's my baby," and I said something snarky like "I'm pretty sure all these stitches confirm that she's actually my baby." Recalling it now I can't believe I said that but she's never said it again. We actually get along great but I was very protective in the early days. Things have calmed down now.

When I was pregnant this really, really bothered me but now it doesn't at all. I want her to be nanny's baby when nanny's around because it gives me a break!! I love that she has so many people who adore her and will look out for her. She's such a lucky girl.

Our whole family does this and it doesn't bother me at all. I have a hard time understanding why people find it annoying. I feel like it's a term of endearment/love... my brothers always call LO "our little girl" and "our baby" and never once do I feel like they're trying to "claim" her or anything. If anything, it makes me so grateful that she's surrounded by so many people who just

Haha. My mom does this too. But when she asks "how's my baby today" I usually respond with "I'm fine, thanks for asking".

@Mrs squirreld: I plan to tell her that her son (my husband) is fine and MY baby is fine too. But I have no problem being stern with her when it comes to my kids. She doesn't get offended about it easily.

@pinkcupcake: this is how I feel. So many people prayed and had good thoughts on her getting here, that I feel like, in some ways, it IS their baby too! She knows I'm her momma, though, so it doesn't bother me.

I mean, I don't think there's any question of *whose* baby she is. Everyone knows I gave birth to her. They are all just so crazy in love with her that she *belongs* to the whole family 
I'm seriously so thankful that our entire family is so head-over-heels for our girl.

My SIL does this, calls R her 3rd child, the only girl she will even have, her baby, etc. Drives me crazy. I told DH to say something to her. I am not sure if he did but she hasn't said anything lately on FB about it.

I wait for my mom to correct herself. She's called herself Mama a few times and quickly corrected it to Grandma! I'm sure it's habit, but no, I birthed her, she's alllll mine

@pinkcupcake: I feel the same way. My sister says "my baby" so much that people literally thought she was pregnant again. But I don't care. I love her kids and always felt like they were mine too! DS is my mom's baby too, not just her grandson - she watches him while I work so of course that's her baby!
I'm just thankful they love him and he loves them. My heart fills with happiness when I see the smiles he gives them.
Of course, they know I'm the only mama - I carried him 39 weeks! No one can claim that name!

Oh yes...I can relate! My DS is 10 now but he was the first grand baby born in our family. My mother always called him "my baby" and still to this DAY (she just said it last week!) says "I feel like he's MY baby". OMG woman.
And then there was this... when DS was a few months old, she was strolling him through a bookstore while I ran to the bathroom and got to talking with another mother in the childrens section. She told this woman that he was HER baby and was sitting there taking compliments from the mom about how great she looked for just giving birth JUST as I walked up!
Yeeeeeeahhhh... my mother... *insert eyeroll*

My mil says it and it grinds my nerves so much. When we were on vacation with her she said she was P's second mother!!! Urgh back the fffff off lady! He has one mother and its not you!! And he def doesn't have a second momma and if he did wouldn't be mil!! Rufh I was so made I was seeing red.

It might annoy me, but I probably wouldn't say anything. I used to refer to my nieces as 'mine' sometimes, and we're very close. I don't think it annoyed my sister, or at least she didn't say anything about it

It doesn't bother me, but no one really does it anyway. I am also happy to let other people take her from me when we are out, but I'm a sahm and my family lives far away, so it's pretty rare to have that extra help. My dad held her for a really long time at lung once and was like, I hope that was ok. I was like, Dh and I both ate lunch with two hands while the good was hot. Yes it was ok!
