Has anyone subscribed to Highlights Hello magazine for their young child and have any thoughts to share? It is recommended for ages 0-2.

My little boy is 13 months and enjoys reading with us and seems to particularly like interactive books(lift the flap, animal noises, etc). I remember liking my Highlights magazines as a kid.

My mom got it for E and it's totally pointless. She just opens the books and throws them. They are of zero interest to her. She's 21 months. I don't sing the little songs to her, she doesn't know what half the things are in the seek and find....*shrug*

@MOMTOLITTLEB: They are not like the regular Highlights magazines you see in the doctor's office. They are quarter-sized and, what, less than 10 pages? Both my mom and my MIL ended up giving E a subscription without realizing it. He likes them, but books = toys for him, so he gets a lot of mileage out of them. Every kid is going to be a bit different.
The tl;dr = I'm glad we got them as a gift, not sure I'd pay for them myself.

We got them as a gift from FIL's girlfriend. It was a nice thought but we never really did anything with them. DS showed no interest. She changed the subscription this year to the regular one but I think he's too young for them. I remember really liking them when growing up so I guess we'll save them for later.

We got a subscription as a gift and E really liked them. They're like a laminated paper, so he could "read" them and I didn't have to worry about him tearing them apart. They were good for holding his attention because the stories are super short, so the topics would change often. There are also tip boxes for the parents about how to get more out of the little stories. He outgrew them somewhere between 18mo and 2yrs.

DS (20 months) gets them and he seems to enjoy them for a few minutes. I think the best part for him is when he say to him "you have mail!" Or "look what came for you!"

LO is 2.5 and LOVES the seek and find and the stories. She also loves getting mail.

DD got them as a gift (she's only 5 months) but my son who is 2 shows a little interest. I wouldn't spend the money on them myself. He got the next stage one, but I think he's too young for them still, but I will save them for him.

Thanks everyone, looks like mixed reviews. It is a little expensive for what it is but I will think about it.

We got it as a gift and L really likes them. They're great for traveling because we can take 5 of those at a fraction of the weight/space of other books and I don't care if they don't survive the trip. He's just over 2 now and starting to outgrow them developmentally but we just got the next one and he's asked us to read it several times so I might hold off on bumping up to the next one.

We get it as a gift, have since 9 months. She is now 21 months and loves it. They are great to keep in the car or bring in the diaper bag. She reads them over and over in the car. And she loves getting mail, she gets really excited every time we get a new one, and then we read it like 8 times in a row.
