Anyone have a hiking/backpack style carrier they love? We are hoping to do some easier hikes with LO this summer. LO is 19 months and probably about 24.5lbs--would love to be able to use it for smaller babies when we have our next LO too!

I bought a used kelty frame pack from craigslist....it's comfortable and lightweight, and we have used it since she was 6 months old. There are always a ton for sale on craigslist and at the consignment section of the gear store here. Despite our best intentions we probably only really hike once a month during nice weather months, so a new one just didn't make sense....and the one I got has been great!

Following! We just use our Ergo but I can't say it's very comfy.

We have two - a Kelty and a Graco I think - both were given to us by friends... DH wears him more, and J is about the same weight as your lo, when I get home today I will check the brands and let you know!!

We were given one from Mountain Equipment Co-op, and its lightweight and pretty comfy. LO is only 17lbs though, so I don't know what it would be like with a bigger LO.

@hellobeeboston: @Silva: which model do you have?
@Silva: that is a really good point--they are expensive to buy new! Not sure I could find one around here though, I should check out craigslist.

We have a deuter for longer hikes but really ate age 2 he's just now big enough for it. We also have a kokopelli frame backpack that we have been using for my son since he was 9 months old and he still fits in it at age 2.

We have a Chico one that is great ! We got it for Christmas right after LO turned one and have used it steadily since. LO is nearing 2 1/2 and is probably 30+ lbs and DH can still carry her. We are probably running out of time though..,

@hilsy85: I've been looking on CL for backpack carriers and there's a lot so you can definitely get a great used one for a good price!
In fact, I'm picking up a Phil and Ted's tomorrow (got it for $75, retails for $180, whooo!), I'll let you know my thoughts on it!

We have this one and love it so far. LO is nine months and about 17.5 pounds and we have used it on long hikes and have some backpacking trips planned for this summer. It should be useful for a couple of years.

Ok so we have an Evenflo (weird?!) and the Kelty was just given. The Evenflo was better for when LO was smaller, I find he gets heavy FAST in it now. DH wore him in the Kelty on a 1.5 mile walk and did well - it has the large-ish metal frame underneath....

@Trailmix: thanks! I will have to keep my eye on CL!
@hellobeeboston: thanks for checking!
Actually just found a kelty pathfinder for $80...think that's a good price?
