Are you planning on doing any baking for gifts this year?
We got a stand mixer this summer at our wedding, and I think I want to bake cookies to give to people this year.
I'm looking for favorite & tasty recipes, and ideas for packaging

i usually wrap cookies in acetate paper with pretty ribbon or rafia. last year i made rolo-pecan-pretzels, candied spiced nuts, oatmeal toffee cookies (http://www.marthastewart.com/315860/oatmeal-toffee-cookies?autonomy_kw=oatmeal%20toffee&rsc=header_1#conversation-container), and brown butter shorties (http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/12/brown-butter-brown-sugar-shorties/)

Mmm have you seen the "turducken cookies" around the internet? They are fun, easy, and delicious!
I have a great sticky bun recipe, too. Do you like baking or are you just getting the hang of it?

@Boogs: I like to bake. I think I'm pretty good, as long as I have a good recipe! My mom always makes stick buns, I will probably help her make those for our families, but I'll probably stick to cookies/fudge - maybe some candy, although I've never really tried it before

I make chocolate peanut butter balls, shortbreads, Nanaimo bars, and chocolate pb squares every year! I love to bake. I'd love to add something new this year.

My best GF and I started a cookie baking tradition a few years ago - we spend a Saturday making quadrupled batches of 3 or 4 kinds and then we're both set. Since I'm due in a few weeks, I'm not sure if we'll have time this year

I bake a TON this time of the year. In fact, my coworkers start asking me when I'm going to start bringing stuff in. I really enjoy making things, just not eating it, so it's always fun to give it away and see other people enjoy it.
Between now and Christmas, I'll probably bake at least 15 different kinds of cookies and baked goods. Starting on something tonight!

@sslm: yum- those all sound great. I was thinking about trying these ball cookies this year: http://www.marthastewart.com/296265/peppermint-ball-cookies
@Mrs. Tricycle: That sounds like a good strategy. I feel like I'm in the "boring" part of pregnancy right now (almost 16w), so I'm looking for distractions!
@BabyBoecksMom: I work at a residential facility and I was kind of thinking it might be nice to bake for the residents (although we have about 24 families, so it would be a lot!). At the very least I can bake for my co-workers

I bake a lot at Christmas....cake balls, sugar cookies, mint brownies and peppermint oreos is what I did last year. I hope to add some new cookies to the mix this year.

Meee!!! I'm thinking about making homemade caramels. I also make jam, which I've already done :). This year I bought little mini jars and made a bunch of those, so I am thinking about doing mini jam jars and caramels. Unless I come across something better. You just never know! I like things that ship well.

I have some standard treats that I make but it doesn't involve baking. I always make peppermint bark, chocolate covered pretzels and the always requested and loved, White Trash Mix.
I just eat the cookies that my Mom and grandma make.
