So I feel kinda silly asking this, but I've never worked for a company that had an "official" holiday party (it's always been a small lunch or something during work hours). This year, though, we'll be going to my husband's company party and I have no idea what to expect. It's in the evening so I'm planning on wearing a little black dress... I'm assuming it's like a cocktail hour?? I just have no idea what to expect :O

Yep, LBD is a great choice.
Quick story- right after college I attended my BF's company holiday party. It was held at a hotel ballroom. I went all out to look festive and wore a teal cocktail dress with gold thread and curled my hair. Everyone else- men & women- were in black, navy, or gray suits like a funeral.

I thought my husband's this year (new job) would be more of a cocktail party, and then he asked some of the women in the office and they said a lot of them wear long formal gowns
I went out and bought something pretty dressy because I really didn't want to be underdressed. I'm glad he asked! Yikes.

My husband's work party invite says formal attire so I'm going with a long dress. Otherwise I would do cocktail dress.

I would ask them about the dress code. I always had to buy a long, black tie dress for my husband's parties. A LBQ would have been too casual. Not saying that would be the case here, but it is better to check!

I think it depends on the party and the location. My husband's work part was last night at Hard Rock. I wore corduroy pants with a nice top and flats. Last year, theirs was at a nice Italian restaurant (do other people have Maggianos) and I wore a sweater dress with boots. The year before that, they had it at a country club, and I wore a nice cocktail dress and felt overdressed. That was the first year he worked there, so I learned my lesson and now have him ask some of the females he works with what they're going to wear.

I would have him ask one of the ladies as well. Sometimes location has nothing to do with it and the employees and spouses just like to dress up or down!
