Someone I know has what appears to be stye, but has no access to medical care. She tried to use a warm compress, but it didn't work. I am trying to get her a doctor's appointment for her, but in the meantime: are there any home remedies for stye that have worked for you?

back when I was really young I remember my dad making some dough -- salt, flour, water and putting in over my eye.

I read somewhere you could warm a spoon in water and press it against the eyelid (not touching the stye)and gently push to pop it. This will only work if it's 'ready' but I did it once and it worked like a charm.

My mom used to have us use a warm compress over the eye. Not sure if it actually made it better but it hurt a little less.

A warm teabag! It's the only thing that works.

Boil an egg and use that as the compress. Stays warm much much longer. Obviously it needs to cool a bit after boiling before you apply to your eye. I also wrap it (still within the shell) in a washcloth to provide a barrier.

The warm compresses work, but it takes several applications (can be days, 6 times a day). Do NOT pop it--then the infection can spread to the rest of the eye. Unfortunately, I popped a style by accident after my first LO, and the infection spread and then I got 3-4 more styes that took FOREVER to go away--like 4-5 months and many visits to ophthalmologists.
My eye doctor's advice was warm compresses several times a day, wash eyelid with baby shampoo 3x a day.

Warm compress of hot clean salt water, alternated with warm compress made of dry rice in a sock (they stay warm for a really long time). The warm teabag thing can work too because the black tea is astringent and can sorta help dry out the stye, but I find salt water is gentler.

I had a phase where I had a ton of styes. Most eventually went away. Hit compresses felt good, but never really helped. One that really wouldn't go away had to be lanced at the eye doctor. It was terrifying. But very rarely do they need medical attention.

@MrsKRB: This, or brew some black tea very dark and soak a cloth or tissue in it and hold it to the eye a few times a day for a couple minutes. That's what we always used in Russia when I was growing up!

Warm compress, and wash will mild soap. And throw out any old makeup that could have bacteria in it.
