Someone asks do you have space for three?
You say "no because we already have three staying with at the house." (Guest queen, two blow up beds accommodate thelse guests)
OR
You say, "three people are already staying at the house, but you're welcome to sleep on the couches."

I say no.
We don't have space for our own family of soon to be four. There are hotels around. It depends who it is and how long though, in reality- we did have dh's grandmother stay with us on the bed in Cs room (c didn't know she was there and treated her to a lovely concert of ring around the Rosie and wheels on the bus at six am). And a sibling we will let sleep on the couch for a night or two. But more than one person is too much, so six? Nope.

If it was family, I'd probably feel super guilty and say yes. BUT none of my family would ever accept a couch to sleep on, so they'd turn me down.

So my FIL and dad are flying in this weekend for our holiday party. FIL includes SMIL and 2 BILs. Since FIL is coming the furthest I gave them first dibs on staying at the house. FIL said he would get a hotel for him and SMIL, but wanted to know if BILs could stay with us. Yes they can stay.
Mr. Lime said his bros would not want to share the guest bed or room. Ok- we have one blow up bed and I'll buy another NBD. The bros can sleep separately in our offices. My dad will take the guest bedroom.
Fast forward to Thanksgiving when the convo above takes place between MIL's SO and I all within earshot and general convo of Mr. Lime. The SO planned to get a hotel for MIL and him and asked about 2 SIL and friend of younger SIL that has to come because she's staying with SIL during winter college break. I give the top answer because a) I don't have any more private rooms to give out and b) in the past Mr. Lime has purchased hotel rooms for them if the guest room was taken. The SO then says he'll get two hotel rooms (BTW Mr. Lime remembers that part).
Fast forward again to last night when MIL informs Mr.Lime her SO doesn't want to get a hotel room for her daughters. A) because oldest SIL is 30 and should be able to pay for her own room and B) the SO expected us to offer our house as lodging. Then, I shared the Thanksgiving convo and Mr. Lime says I should have given the bottom answer.
Anyway, I will now have three couch surfers and have asked them to bring pillows and blankets.

If they're high maintenance guests I say there's no room, otherwise I say it's fine. I'd put the brother in laws in the same room though unless they hate each other.

That is way too many people! We have a big house and only three of us so we could accommodate three comfortably but you're right- it's turning into a hostel! Hopefully you have a private master bath!

@Maysprout: I will give the SILs places to go before the party if they come too early. I can't concentrate on cooking when they constantly want to talk or have the TV turned way up. The good thing is the couch surfers will only be there for one night...I think. MIL's SO was talking about making this party into a vacation trip. Maybe they'll take separate cars and the ladies will just come for the night.
@MOMTOLITTLEB: yes, we will have our bathroom all to ourselves. But all the guests will have to share one. Yuck!

If it was family for the holidays then yes I would offer up couches. my DH would flip out, but he doesn't like having even 1 guest....

I hate both having houseguests and being a houseguest.
(My very very nearest and dearest friends are an exception to the former.)

I am a massive introvert and rarely have guests also because I hate to clean and live in a tiny apartment. My head hurts from the mere idea of you going through this. It's too much! Hope you will be ok!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We would say, you are welcome to the floor/couches! But I realize most Americans aren't this way. Our families don't stay in hotels if they can stay with a family member.
eta: you guys would DIE with some of the things we've done in our small 2 bedroom condo. Like us and our kiddo PLUS Dh's parents AND his sister and her two kids. Yes, that's right..6 adults and 3 kids in a 2 bedroom. That was just for a weekend though. SIL, her husband and their kids slept in our room in our king bed with an airbed on the floor for 1 kid. MIL and FIL slept in LOs queen bed and our LO slept with them in there. And me and DH slept on an air mattress in our living room. hahaha..

@Anagram: I grew up with bunking with family when visiting. As I became older I just didn't like it when it meant that I was expected to give up my room/ bed share/ room share. I didn't like it when we would visit family and their homes (bathrooms) were not kept as clean as ours. I try to extend to my guests the same accomodations I would feel comfortable having. My aunt gets offended when my mom doesn't stay at her house, but all she can offer up is a recliner or bed sharing with one of her adult daughters. At this point, my mom feels she's too old for either of those options. So there is an expectation with even my own family to make room, but some options are not even on my radar.
@gracecat: ha ha, I should be ok...I already informed them of some options to occupy their time if they get to our city too early. I refuse to add more stress to my pre-party must dos!

This happened to me (the number of people)... I would do the bottom one too. But only really close family and friends ask to stay with us.
Our families are not that large or far away so we have never been put in this exact situation. I think if they were not that close I might say the first one.

If it was just SILs as the "extras" I would be OK with it, but random friend of SIL? Uhhhh how about no.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: a recliner or bed sharing with someone that is not your spouse is crazytown, for sure!
