My hospital is located not too far from work but about a 30 minute train ride from home (maybe the same driving too?). Obviously I have some time still, but DH brought up finding a driving route to the hospital (per his daddy book lol). So I got to thinking... If I go into labor at work, I won't go home first to get my hospital bag. And DH works closer to the hospital than home too so if he decided to go home before the hospital, we're talking about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour journey. Anyone in or have a similar situation? Trying to figure out logistics... Do I make two hospital bags, find a way to bring it to work, etc.? Clearly WAY ahead of things right now...

We were in this situation last time. I would find someone who could bring your bag to you if this situation happens. And I would keep important things like my phone charger in my purse. There really wasn't much in my hospital bag that I needed during labor. If someone brought it to me after all was said and done, it would have been fine.

I was in the same situation - hospital and OB were a 10 minute walk from work downtown (which was great for appointments!), but a 30-45 minute drive from home. I ended up with a scheduled c section, so we booked a hotel steps from the hospital the night before so we didn't have to worry about driving in the morning of.
I would second what @MUI831: said about keeping the important things (ID, phone, charger, etc.) in your bag (and maybe stash a small bag of comfy clothes and toiletries at your office) in case you go from there.

I was in labor a long time before I was admitted to the hospital so I can't imagine not going home unless I planned to labor somewhere else in the meantime (hotel?).
Having said that, DH brought me only my post-delivery baby bag when we did get to the hospital, not my labor bag. So I had none of my "essentials" for labor and I did just fine.

@LindsayInNY: I don't think you'd need a full second bag, but maybe just a small emergency stash you could keep at the office. Just an extra phone cord, maybe a pair of yoga pants (in case your water breaks and you need a clean pair), etc. Someone later could bring you or go get a full bag from home.

How does DH get to work? Train or drive? If he drives I would just leave your hospital bag in the boot of the car.

Now that I think of it, I think I was just being paranoid crazy. In all honesty, if I went into labor at work, I should be able to get home (train or taxi) and labor some more there and get my bag before needing to go to the hospital. But some of these ideas about packing a pair of pants, copies of IDs, etc. are smart!!

@LindsayInNY: Honestly I would probably keep a small bag at work and just have DH or family grab your "big bag." There's not really anything you NEED when laboring. I would throw in extra pants, tank top, comb/ponytail holder, phone charger, and paperwork if you need it.

I didn't labor, but even so, i gave my hospital bag to my parents and just packed a very small bag to bring with me to the hospital - phone charger type of stuff. because i knew there wouldn't be room to store stuff in the hospital before we got a room and i knew i wouldn't need most of it (like stuff for baby) until much later anyway! I would keep a small bag of duplicate essentials at work like everyone suggested and that will be plenty. if you and DH both train it to the hospital for some reason (unlikely), just make sure someone has a key and can grab your bag from your house.

I dont think we used anything in my hospital bag until I already gave birth, so you can use the hospital gown, disposable undies and pads.
Your DH/Famly/Friend can bring your bag later
If you go into labor please take a taxi
I lived and worked about 30 mins away from my hospital.

@LuLu Mom: DH wouldn't really be able to. He works near the hospital too and I don't think he would be comfortable stopping home and leaving me behind. And no family in the area to help. I'm anticipating I'll be able to go home during early labor anyways. I just won't tough it out at work!
@Pirouette: There isn't any one else to stop at home and get it
It's just me and DH. At some point we'll need the car (obviously) but I don't foresee DH going home while I'm actively in labor.@bunnylove08: Haha, I think I would maybe taxi/Uber it home from work and not try and tough it out here!

When I went into labor, I went home and packed my hospital bag. Definitely didn't have it ready in advance!

@LindsayInNY: oh that sucks. I would totally bring you your hospital bag! Except that would be creepy because you'd have to give me your keys
in that case, I'd definitely pack a small bag to leave at work and maybe as you get really close to your due date carry a bigger tote than your ordinary purse with a few extra items. I barely opened my hospital bag other than to put on our going home outfits so maybe it's incentive to pack light! -
