We're considering going to Chicago for a quick weekend trip in late October to celebrate my 30th birthday. What hotel/area recommendations do you have? It'll be DH, DS (who's 2), and myself. We might have a couple friends join us, but not 100% sure.
Also, what's the best way to get around Chicago; and what's the weather like late October?

@Alivoo01: Weather in late October is a total mystery. Sometimes there are still nice warm-ish days, but several years it's snowed on Halloween.
There's an Embassy Suites on State Street that would be good with a toddler because you wouldn't have to share a bedroom.

We stayed at the Langham and it was up there with our favorite hotels ever. It was downtown by the river. We went in November last year, and one day was super warm, like light coats, and the next day it was pouring rain and absolutely freezing.
ETA: the Langham was amazing with our toddler because it had enormous rooms and a fully equipped and crazy fun playroom. We just cabbed or walked everywhere, but there's lots of transit options.

We stayed right off of Michigan Ave which was a great central location - the Knickerbocker.

The Langham is super kid friendly and has a great afternoon tea service. I love all of the Kimpton hotels around here.

I second any Kimpton hotels in the area! I think we also stayed at a double tree off Mich Ave once which was great!
Mich Ave is where I'd stay. Late Oct could be anywhere from 70's and sunny to 30's and snow/wind. Sorry - its the midwest - we're unpredictable. Realistically I'd plan on chilly but still ok to walk around! Chicago has crazy wind - so whatever the weather says plan on it being windy!
For getting around Cabs will be the best bet - the El is also available but in all my time in Chicago (2-3 times a year) we have hoofed it or cab'd it!
Let me know if you want more recommendations on food/stuff to do! My sister lives there and we visit all the time! Navy Pier, the museum and the aquarium are all great!!! Plus a ton of great stuff for adults...shows, bars, restaurants...maybe if friends came you could get a sitter for a night?

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'll look into! I checked out a site that does bundle deals and said I could save 100% on my flight if I book the Langham. Say what?!

@Alivoo01: we stayed there with our 20 month old. They have nice cribs, huge rooms with a space to roll kids into between the two halves of the bathroom, and an amazing unimaginably cool kids' playroom. Plus great, kid accommodating service all around.

@Alivoo01: When I've been there for tea, there's a ton of young kids and parents. The staff is wonderful there as well.
