Booze

I'd stay away from things to decorate with or things that smell because everyone has different taste. I usually prefer to give (and get) something consumable.

A friend brought us dinner and what they called the "essentials" (we have a toddler): a quart of milk, pouches, wine, and toilet paper. It was hilarious and we used every single thing almost immediately.

Wine is always a pretty safe bet, I think. A nice rosé for the summer.
Or is there something they have for the first time since they are first time homeowners? Like a grill? So then I would maybe do a fun grill gift basket. A spice rub, a Bobby flay cookbook, 6 pack of beer and maybe grill tools. Something like that but probably depends on how good of friends they are.

Tea towels are always nice and useful. Williams Sonoma has great ones.

If you have a picture of the 4 of you, put it in a nice frame? That might go nicely with the wine.

A nice throw that's in a neutral color like cream or taupe. Love having a soft throw for watching movies on the couch.

A nice classic welcome mat.

I totally haven't bought any of this for anyone. Except the wine. Haha. But I'm having fun imagining what I would appreciate.

A giftcard to a home improvement store could also be nice.
