We live in Houston. We happen to be visiting family in Mass right now. Our apartment building is flooded, with no power or running water. I'm so so so happy to not be there. I seriously get panicked just thinking about what I would do without water and no way to leave. The streets are completely under water. Please pray for my friends and neighbors. Many have lost cars and houses. And more rain is due. I'm so heart sick looking at the photos.

We are in west houston and doing ok. No power, but flooding is better this afternoon. It got really bad for a while, and I think will be bad again tonight.

@MamaG: my husband was supposed to fly out yesterday. The airports are literally under water so I don't know when we will be able to get back. The storm is supposed to come back on Wednesday.

I'm in NE Houston and it's ok here. We're pretty lucky compared to the rest of the city.

I'm NE of Houston as well. So far we're doing pretty well. We lost power for a couple of hours earlier and have had some street flooding but nothing in our home. I feel very fortunate compared to lots of other Houstonians. Our city has really banded together, though, and I'm proud of that. Thank you to everyone sending good thoughts our way. Unfortunately we still have a few more days of Harvey ahead.

I'm just south of Houston in matagorda county. We're not doing very well here. We decided to stay until this morning when the water was about 2ft from being in the house. We managed to get out with my husbands truck, which is lifted. We're in another small town about an hour away now at some friends house. All we can really do is wait and see what the next few days bring as to wether everything floods out or not. The biggest concerns now are the rivers nearby reaching record flood stages. We left about noon today, and I was told about an hour ago from some people down by us that the water level has gone down slightly from the runoff, so we're hopeful we can keep it out of the house.

Boats picking people up where we live. This picture was taken in front of our building. No one can come or go.

Our building still taking water. If you pray, please pray the waters clear soon. My pregnant friend who lives down the hall is running out of food and no one can make it to the store.

@justjules: Wow, this is so scary. Prayers for you, your friend, and all Texans.

@FaithFertility: I'm a good four hours north of this. So we are good. We have rain and humidity but nothing that even comes close in comparison.

Water got over the first of our three front steps yesterday, but thankfully it receded a lot overnight. About a mile from us was devastated, though. We heard helicopters overhead yesterday rescuing people. Please, if you want to help, consider donating to the Red Cross for relief efforts. They have opened a shelter in a large convention center downtown and they have a lot of needs. I'm hoping to bring stuff down there later -- they really need baby items. But it's not safe to leave yet.

@justjules: @MrsSCB: how scary. I actually can't believe more people aren't talking about this on at least my social media. (Obviously it's still all over the news.) Will keep you and your friends/family/neighbors in my thoughts!!

I'm up in Dallas - myself and my moms group are ready to go with spare bedrooms and supplies for the kids (clothing, diapers, extra cribs). If anyone makes it up north and finds themselves in need, please wall me and I will happily coordinate for you.

We evacuated to the Dallas area yesterday morning as our street flooded. Evacuation orders for our neighborhood were issued an hour later, and by yesterday evening the route we had taken was impassable. I expect we'll come home to water damage, but we are grateful to have made it out safely. The damage across the area is truly catastrophic.

Prayers for everyone in the path of the storm. I hope everyone makes it through safely. Sandy was pretty scary here in the NE, but this seems so much worse... all that rain...

I'm in Houston. My exact neighborhood is fine. We've had an absurd amount of rain but our street is draining well and no threat of flooding right here. We are so so lucky!

@rattles: Wow. Glad you made it out just in time. Do you know anyone who stayed behind? Always so nerve wracking to leave it behind without any contact.
@travellingbee: Great update! Stay safe!

@rattles: do you have family/friends to stay with up here? do you need anything?

@lawbee11: thank you, and you too!
@rattles: I'm so sorry -- but glad you are all safe. Let us know if we can do anything.
This was us at the worst point. I was seriously panicking. We only have one floor, and they were saying not to go in the attic unless you have an axe to cut through the roof if necessary. That was a bit terrifying...
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@MrsSCB: that is so scary. DH was just telling me about the ax in the attic thing and now he wants to keep one up there.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Adira: @Foodnerd81: yeah, that was not fun...thankfully it didn't get much higher than that. We did not have an axe, it's now something I'm thinking we need to store up there, sadly. I'm sure this will not be the last flood houston endures

@justjules: How are you guys doing? Has anyone been able to help your friend? I was seeing a lot of posts yesterday about the cajun navy helping people in need, maybe someone could bring food to her if she still hasn't been able to help?

@ShootingStar: thanks for asking! the apartment building is still an island so you can't drive in or out. They still don't have water either. Thankfully people have been pooling water bottles, food, diapers and medicine to help each other out. And someone dropped off more water bottles via boat yesterday. The situation is pretty bad but it's really warmed my heart to hear stories of everyone being so generous. The private Facebook page is filled with stories of everyone sharing what little they have.

@justjules: I posted on your wall. Hope your neighbor is still doing ok and you are ok to stay here in Mass for a while.
