It might be a one pot or bowl meal but we always try to have a protein of meat/seafood/fish, vegetable and almost always a starch.

ie tonight is chicken breast with swiss chard and possibly sweet potatoes.
If I'm doing noodle soup I usually use shrimp, noodles and add whatever veg I have on hand.
If we're doing soup it always has a form of protein + veggies. Soup is always accompanied by some kind of sandwich because we'll starve if we just eat soup! LOL
