We have six drawers. We only keep the size she's currently wearing in the dresser, bigger sizes are in baskets in the closet. Here's how it is organized:

1. Onesies
2. Pants/shorts
3. Rompers, t-shirts
4. Socks/hats/accessories
5. Sleepers
6. Swaddle blankets

ETA: we hang dresses and sweaters!

With both the kids, we had stand alone bins in the beginning. One for onesies, one for sleepers, one for misc (hoodies, pants, etc). If DD has a dress, it's on a hanger in her brother's closet. Otherwise everything goes into those three bins.

Now that DS is a little older, we've stopped using bins for his clothes. There's too much and they're too big! We use a combination closet and dresser format. Shirts, sweaters, jackets, coats are hanging up and easy to see. Pants and shorts are on the first drawer of the dresser. Pajamas and onesies are in the second drawer. I admit I don't keep things very neat in the drawers but part of that reason is the fact that DS can reach the second drawer and likes to unpack it. (There are two more drawers we keep tapped shut for safety; DS likes to pull them out and give mom heart attacks from the thud).

@oliviaoblivia: Don't you love when husbands are all "But he's covered! He doesn't need to match!" Normally DH does a pretty good job dressing DS but occassionally, he'll pair two random pajamas together (top and bottom) and put him to bed in it. Next morning, here I am greeted by a toddler in grey and red racing pants and dark blue, neon green, and light blue monsters themed top! Augh! The clashing!

I keep everything in bins so I don't have to hang or fold much. Pants, shirts, sleepers, gowns, short sleeved onesies and long sleeved onesies. The smaller bins hold shoes, bibs, and hats. I hang up sweaters. Here's a picture of her closet before I put her clothes in.

I have onesies in one drawer and shorts, pants and t-shirts in another. I hang all rompers, sleepers and anything else that is a 1 piece outfit by size. Socks, hats, bibs are all in baskets in the closet.

Oh. And I have three drawers in her closet...... Too small clothes that I haven't put in long term storage yet...... Clothes that are still too big.....and diaper pail liners, first aid, hats, swimsuits, crap, etc.

@LemonLong: Your system makes my OCD heart happy

I found that having things hung up didn't work for us, since I rarely grabbed an outfit before I took him to the changing table (which is really just the top of the dresser). So we just have a drawer of all currently sized clothes and we just grab and go. Everything that's too big is hung up, and what's too small is put away in the closet.

I keep everything in the closet. I have pants/shorts in the plastic bin (i've since bought pants hangers) and left to right is the smallest to largest. When she was newborn, it was just newborn on the left and 0-3M on the right. When she outgrew newborn, i dumped it into another bin on the floor (and subsequently moved it downstairs) and washed the 3M clothing and hung it next to the 0-3M clothing. Last month, I dug out some 3-6M clothing (dresses mostly, since those fit) and washed and hung those to the right. I have nothing in drawers except socks and swaddles.

I agree that within arms reach socks and pjs should be kept.

Other then that we put stuff in drawers. At first it was by "outfit" but over time it has seperated to pants in one drawer, shirts in another, swim suits and accessories in the last, and nice outfits and dresses are hung.

@MrsTiz: Aww boo. That's what I thought you were going to say If it makes you fell any better we only more recently got one here.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: here is the closet all filled in. My LO is 9 months now and there's still a ton of room for her stuff. The big bins on top hold extra blankets, sheets, and clothes she has yet to grow into. The sliding drawers hold socks/tights/accessories, baby towels and washcloths, sleep sacks, and extra packs of diapers, wipes, and diaper genie refills.

Edited to add that I'm lazy so I don't fold the clothes in the bins. None of her clothes really wrinkle so I don't worry about it.

We hang tops and rompers, and use a couple drawers for clothes too.

The top drawer is diapers, burp cloths (don't use anymore), sleep sacks, PJs. The second is shorts/skirts/pants and headbands/accessories/socks.

Edit to add... When dd was that little we had a lot of new stuff hanging up for later. Plus used a whole drawer for onesies and moved sleep sacks out and kept diapers somewhere else.

@mrskc: this is the most impressive baby clothes organization I've ever seen! Do those drawers always look like that, or was this done like this just the first time?

I use 4 regular sized drawers and one little tiny drawer for DS.
1. Tees and onesies
2. Rompers, overalls, and sleepers
3. blankets and swaddles
4. next size up stuff
5. socks, hats, babylegs (in the tiny drawer)

I put all the too-small stuff in a big bin in our closet. He doesn't have a closet, and I don't hang any of his stuff up.
