Can I come live with you??

That's so big! I think I'd stop at 4000 sq ft. That's twice the size of what we have now.

Whoa! Do the plans come with instructions on how to dig the moat?

I fantasize about having 2500 sq ft. Some day!

I would love 3000+. DH grew up in a 5000 sq ft house but the way it was constructed was perfect.

i think 3000 sq feet is a great size. we lived in a 4400 sq foot house for a family of four and it was way too big. we never saw each other because we were all in our own space. i think when you live in a smaller space you interact a lot more.

5700? That's a castle! I will come be your nanny. Oh, and I am a great barista and you could have delicious lattes every day.

I think 3000 would be the perfect family home ONCE we have all four of our kids. That would be too much for us right now as a family for three.

5700 sq ft?!?! Holy cow! That is one big house. I'm not quite sure how large I'd like my ideal home to be. I've never lived anywhere larger than 1100 sq ft.

I grew up in a 3500 sq ft, which didn't seem that big. But, when we were looking for our home the houses over 3,000 seemed too big. One of my older friends lives in a beautiful 6,600/7,000 sq ft home and it's gorgeous. If I could have a staff to clean and maintain it and maybe at least 2 kids to fill it with laughter I would take that house.

@Mrs. Bee: I can't agree with you more! We lived in a little bitty house while our house was being built and interacted all the tinlme. Once we moved we never did because we all had our own living room. I miss our little house!

We have 3800 and there is a whole floor that we've left closed off this entire winter. Really, I think 2500-3000 is perfect for a family of 4!

Our house is around the 3000 mark and I think it's a bit too much for our family of 3 + a Labrador. I'd prefer a well planned 2,500 sq ft home. Lots of storage and a great layout can do wonders. I currently wish we would just chop off our living room and half of the playroom.

Though, now that I think about it, I'd looove to take that 500 sq ft and add it to the master bedroom. Have a really nice, big space for my husband and I.

Wow! 3,000 - 4,000 sounds about right. Our current house is 1500 and I wouldn't mind something with more living space, one more bedroom and more separation between the living and sleeping areas. I can't imagine 5700!

We're currently in 800 which is perfect for us and our baby, so I cannot imagine 5700! As a kid I used to drive by huge mansions and daydream of someday living in one, but now I just see them as a big $$/time suck, with excess rooms to furnish, heat/cool and clean. No thanks!

One of our homes growing up was 3400 and even that felt too big. There were so many rooms we rarely went in - formal living room, formal dining room, sunroom, study - plus I agree with pp that it's easier to become isolated as a family.

Dream house? Umm something like 10,000-12,000. A girl can dream! My dream house is up the hill from me. Very kardashian-esque and perfect!
