I didn't go to the elementary school near my house because my parents transferred me to a school with better scores...they had to drive me. I took the school bus to junior high and I walked to high school!

We were always walking distance so I either walked or rode my bike unless a friends mom drove me. In high school when we were old enough to drive a friend drove me. I didn't get a car until sophomore year of college.

My parents walked me to elementary school, it was on their way to work. And then I took the bus to middle school and high school. My senior yr, my dad would drive me in the morning, and I usually hitched a ride home from my best friend's mom, I was on their way home.

I walked. My elementary, middle, and high schools were next to each other, and from my house it was about a 15 minute walk. Unless it was really snowy and blizzardy, we walked. In that case, my mom would give us a ride. In high school I would occasionally catch a ride with a friend who lived in the neighborhood, but she was perpetually late so I tried to not rely on her.

5 minute walk to elementary school. Middle and high school (same place) were 1 -1.25 hours on both the bus and subway. It made me never want to have a long commute for work, etc. ever again. So far I've been successful in that. That said, I did get a lot of reading done.
