I met some people in one of my classes and while I was hanging out with them, I met a girl who lived on the same floor as them in their dorm. We're still best friends to this day (10+ years).

Most of my other friends I either met in class or through my BFF! And I met Hubs because we were randomly assigned as partners in a class!

In the dorms and classes. Met my BFF in our Intro to Comm class and we became BFF when we both became RAs in sophomore year.

My best friend from college was dating my boyfriends step brother-we had only met twice and decided to move in together. Within a month of living together we dumped the douche bags and have been BFF's since! We made friends through classes and reconnected with HS people too.

My best friend from college was my boyfriend's best "girl" friend from high school. He introduced us and we were inseperable (even after I dumped the douche for cheating on me!) haha, otherwise sadly I later got in with the "wrong" crowd in college & am no longer friends with those people because they were toxic. I am much closer with my high school friends (still my best friends!)

The girls I am still close with were mostly all randomly assigned to the same floor of my small dorm Freshman year. 9/11/01 was a week after we moved in, and I think going through such a big thing together when we barely knew each other helped seal our friendships quickly.

I had plans to live with another girl (who I knew through my dance team) for sophomore year but she didn't end up being able to come back to school. The freshman girl I was randomly placed with (as a sophomore - the horror!) quickly became my best friend at school, and we're still very close. I agree with you @mrbee: that so much relies on random chance!
